I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee and it just recently started making oil. I started running it about 3 weeks ago after it had been standing for most of the past 6-9 months. I dropped the oil (about 13 qts), changed filter and put in 5 qts yesterday. I went to work today and after about 25 miles the oil showed more than double on the stick. The radiator is fine, the oil looks and smells fine.............any ideas?

The only liquid that can be getting into the crankcase and mixing with the oil is engine coolant. This is caused by a bad head gasket. Driving the truck as it is will cause serious engine damage. Have it looked at by a professional mechanic before driving it again.

1996 jeep grand Cherokee will turn over but not start. weak spark. fuel at fuel rail. replaced PCM 1 month ago. replaced crank shaft sensor 3 months ago....

See if your getting spark at the ign. coil first (passengers side on that year) if you are change the crank shaft sensor making sure you mount it as close to the engine as possible so it never gives you trouble again.

My 2001 Grand Cherokee limited 4.7 dies a few seconds after it starts than will not start again for a few minutes?

Sounds like the relay that runs the fuel pump. The computer may be reading no oil pressure and shuts the engine down Check the oil pressure when it starts with a manual gauge. You may need to prime the oil pump.

Will not start, started 3 weeks ago then immediatly shut down, I detected a gasoline odor 1-2 days prior to shutdown, none since.

you need to check to see if there is any spark and fuel
if there is no spark, it may be the crank sensor
if there is no fuel, it may be the fuel pump

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls when brakes are applied

My 2000 Grand Cherokee had the same problem, without all the sputtering, it would just die approaching a stop. We could only keep it running by slightly pushing down on the gas petal when coming to a stop. I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor, but that didn't change anything. A new mechanic I found replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and we've had no problems in a week.
