It could be the water pump leaking or it could be a hose. You can try to fill up the radiator (not trying to spill any water ) and squeeze the upper or lower radiator hose. You might hear or see where it is leaking from.

Why radiator wont hold water

Is your antifreeze leaking on the ground in the front of the motor ? There are many different things to do to find the right answer to this question. 1 : pull the motor dipstick. If oil mixes with the water - antifreeze the dipstick will look milky. If it does not. And looks good. Then 2: with water in the radiator don't put antifreeze in it keeps wasting $$ til leak is found. 3 : start motor look from under the front of the water pump with a flashlight if you have a dripping from a weep hole in the water pump bottom behind the fan. If you can't find a leak shut off the motor. Feel the bottom of the water pump if there is a presence of water you'll need a new one. If not .4:if the motor is over heating or has been blowing antifreeze out of the overflow hose along the side of the radiator. If so the thermostat may be stuck. Much cheaper repair.

How to check for leaks of antifreeze/in 97 expedition smell of antifreeze

Hi Sharlene,so you smell antifreeze.Raise your hood and check your antifreeze over flow container, you should have a l and a h mark on it,high and low.If low, then it's leaking somewhere, look at the radiator cap and overflow hose for leak, look at over flow container for leak from hose going to it from radiator, look all over engine, look at top and bottom radiator hoses and clamps for leaks,if leaking there, tighten clamp with flat head screw driver,if no leak is found, get under vehicle and see if any antifreeze is visible, maybe water pump, look on ground for leak and follow, check floor board on driver side, heater core could be bad, check hoses going to heater core from engine firewall.

I will like to know if the antifreeze leak could be from the water pump if the leak comes from the bottom of the car and not from the radiator

ALL antifreeze leaks will be seen coming from the bottom of the car. Yes, it COULD becoming from the water pump. But then again, it could be coming from an intake manifold gasket, a heater hose, a throttle-body heater hose, a freeze plug, a timing cover, a heater control valve, etc..
To find out where it is leaking from, you must follow the antifreeze trail UP from where you see it leaking. Antifreeze leaks ALLWAYS travel downhill. Sometimes they can be deceiving also. I have seen intake manifold leaks at the front of the engine run all the way to the back of the engine and make it look like a rear freeze plug is leaking. Again, you must follow the trail to find the actual source.

My coolant is rapidly disappearing, and I have no clue why?

IF YOU GOT TOO MUCH WATER IN COOLANT SYSTEM AND DONT HAVE 50 / 50 MIXTURE OF ANTIFREEZE AND WATER. WATER WILL EVAPORATE BOIL AWAY.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS LOOK AT TOP AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSES LEAKS, CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS AROUND BOTH RADIATOR CONTAINER AND RADIATOR CORES LEAKING. CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE. IF LEAKING WATER NEED REPLACING, CHECK ENGINE CRANKCASE ANTIFREEZE WILL LEAK IN CRANK CASE OR LEAK IN THE INTAKE GASKET COOLANT WILL BURN WITH FUEL.MANY THINGS WILL CAUSE COOLANT LOST.

My car started overheating. I was almost out of antifreeze, but my reserve tank still had antifreeze. Put a sealant in the radiator believing there was a leak, as well as the 50/50 mix, but it still ran...

Not likely water pump unless pump is leaking. You need to figure out where the antifreeze leaked out. Can you see anything leaking with radiator full and engine running? I have some tips at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat if you want to troubleshoot. Let me know if you have questions.

Water leaks from bottom of engine

If it is antifreeze, then dry off the area as much as possible...then run the engine and look underneathe while it's running to see where it is coming from....could be a loose radiator hose to the water pump, the water pump itself or leaking manifold.

Antifreeze leak

Ok, Its defiantly the seal that is between the water pump and the engine block that is leaking the coolant.
