When your fuel pressure regulator goes bad, its easy to fix all you need is a pliers and a flat screwdriver. unclip the horses and pull them out. If its hard use the screwdriver. The regulator should just pop out anyone can do this easy fix but you will pay a premium price at the mechanic.
For constant jerks and rough idle make sure your fuel pump is good and filter is clean, check the injectors as well this should solve the problem. looks like a bad fuel pressure.

How to replace fuel pressure regulator on 1999 buick 3.1 v6

There not bad to replace, but you do have to have a special tool to unhook the fuel lines to it. And there should be just one set of wires goin to it also. It should take you about 20 minutes to change. If you have the right tools to do it.

Want to replace fuel pressure regulator in 2000 dodge ram 1500 van 3.9 engine service manuel offers no help

The fuel pressure regulator/filter assembly is located on the top of the gas tank If you can access it without dropping tank is an open question, i think the tank needs to at least be dropped part way out and supported on a floor jack. You May also need the special tool to release the fuel line on some models. See picture of regulator below.

2001 Hyundai XG300L HARD TO START DONT START RIGHTWAY TAKE LIKE 5 SECONDS CRANK TO START,,,, SOMEBODY CAN GIVE ME ANY IDEA WHAT IS THE PROBLEM PLEASE THANKS !!!

hi martin i am shannon . you will first need to determan if the problem is fuel or spark related . for fuel just add 1 oz of gas into the intake through the throttle. you will need to remove the big black hose at the throttle . just pour the fuel in. if it starts right up then you have a fuel issue most likely a bad fuel pressure regulator. too test the spark i would get a spark tester . connect it to one of the plug or coil wires. set it to 25.0000 volts then have some one turn the engine over while you which for spark. if you get no spark you may have a bad crank angle sensor. hear is a spark tester i use . this one is at Autozone.

I am looking for the fuel pressure regulator on a 1997 GMC 1500 truck it has the vortex engine in it.

The Vortec motors typically have the fuel regulator down inside the intake (yep you have to remove the top section of the motor to see or replace them). Also you need to go to a special location on the Internet to find a replacement fuel regulator or you will be forced to purchase the whole fuel rail. It is designed with rivets you have to drill out to remove just the regulator. I replaced mine with a kit I bought on the Internet for about $100 (that was about five years ago) and it was about a difficulty of 5 because I had to drill a small hole and buy a special "security" Torx tool. Also read this first in case there's a problem in the manifold "plenum" that is leaking and not the regulator:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/t566095.html
For the 4.3L vortec a regulator and special security tool can be purchased here: http://www.outdoorpros.com/Prod/Dorman-Motormite-55162-Fuel-System-Fuel-Pressure-Regulator/49990/Cat/1276?SSAID=198698
Buy the CPI regulator kit including regulator, gasket, mounts, bolts and the wonderful instructions for $100 here or call 1-888-809-3835 to order by phone: http://www.lindertech.com/reconinj.htm

I need to change my fuel filter in my 98 Dodge Intrepid. I know I need to drop the gas tank, but I'll be honest I've never did this before. I would like to have pictures to see what it looks like.

300M, Concorde, Intrepid, LHS, 1998-2004 - Fuel Filter Removal & Installation The fuel filter mounts to the frame rail in front of the fuel tank. The inlet and outlet ends of the filter are marked for installation purposes. Install the fuel filter making certain that it is properly orientated.

NOTE The fuel filter is part of the fuel pressure regulator mounted on the fuel pump module.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Lower the fuel tank.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
Negative battery cable Purge and vent lines Fuel line from the pressure regulator Filter/regulator by pushing in the locking tab, turning the regulator to unlock it and pulling the it straight up
To install:

  1. Push the fuel filter/regulator into the fuel pump module and turn to lock it into position.
  2. Connect the fuel lines and install the tank.
  3. Start the engine, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

Fuel Pump - Removal & Installation
The in-tank fuel pump module contains the fuel pump and pressure regulator which adjusts fuel system pressure. Fuel pump voltage is supplied through the fuel pump relay.

The fuel pump is serviced as part of the fuel pump module. The fuel pump module is installed in the top of the fuel tank and contains the electric fuel pump, fuel pump reservoir, inlet strainer fuel gauge sending unit, fuel supply and return line connections and the pressure regulator. The inlet strainer, fuel pressure regulator and level sensor are the only serviceable items. If the fuel pump requires service, replace the fuel pump module.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Fuel tank
  4. Clean the top of the tank to remove any loose dirt.

Fuel pump module electrical connector from the top of the fuel pump module
  5. Using special tool 6856, remove the fuel pump locknut by turning it counterclockwise.
CAUTION The fuel reservoir of the fuel pump module does not empty out when the tank is drained. The fuel in the reservoir may spill out when the module is removed.
  6. Remove the fuel pump and O-ring from the tank and discard the O-ring.
To install:
  1. Thoroughly clean all parts. Wipe the seal area of the tank clean. Place a new O-ring on the ledge between the tank threads and the pump module opening.
  2. Position the fuel pump module in the tank. Be sure the alignment tab on the underside of the pump module flange sits in the corresponding notch in the fuel tank.
  3. While holding the fuel pump module in place install the locking ring and torque to 40 inch lbs. (5 Nm) using special tool 6856 or a spanner-type tool.
  4. Install or connect the following:
Fuel tank Fuel pump module electrical connector Negative battery cable
  5. Fill the fuel tank with fuel. Install the fuel filler cap. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to pressurize the system. Check the fuel system for leaks.
Hope this helped.

How do I disconnect the pressurized fuel line on Mazda B2300

You need a special tool called a fuel line disconnect tool. You should be able to get one for your specific vehicle at an auto parts store. However that is not the correct or safest way to check for a bad fuel pump.Check out this link for more info.

1996 cavalier; When I start the car; it smells like gas when the heater is on. The man at mufflerman changed the catalitic converter for $400 but it's still the same Betty

Your fuel pressure regulator may have gone bad and needs to be replaced if it's gas you smell. I am guessing you mean gasoline and not exhaust gas or oil burning. When the fuel pressure goes bad, it tends to leak gas. There is a rubber diaphragm that breaks and that is when the gas starts to leak on to the engine giving you the smell of gas only when the engine is running. The fuel pressure regulator is located on the fuel injector rail and can be replaced in 10 min with common tools and cost around $15.00 at Auto Zone or NAPA auto parts store. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again soon and be safe.

My 2000 Venture van just recently started having a strong gas smell. There is no leaking on the cement driveway. We have stopped driving for now until we find out what is wrong. The tank is about 1/3 full...

It's common for the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad and will need to be replaced. It take's about 15 min to replace with common tools, if there is an Auto Zone around your area. You can buy the fuel pressure regulator there and that can give you the step bu step instructions to get the job done with common tools, just make sure you oil the O-rings to the regulator before installing it back to the fuel injector rails. The fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel injector rail buy the throttle body, you can see it. It looks like a cylinder about an inch in diameter and 1 1/2 inches long with a vacuum tube connected to it. Inspect it for any signs of fuel leak. Good luck and keep me posted.

I suspect fuel pump problem how do I check fuel pressure, what tools do I need

There should be a Schrader valve on the fuel rail (looks like a valve stem on a tire, it is metal).

You need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to that valve and do the following test:

  1. Relieve fuel pressure.
  2. Remove the 12 mm sealing nut from the fuel rail. Attach the fuel pressure adapter nut, 12 mm (90201 - P0A - 003) and the special tool.
  3. Start the engine. Measure the fuel pressure with the engine idling and the vacuum hose of the fuel pressure regulator disconnected from the fuel pressure regulator and pinched. If the engine will not start, turn the ignition switch on, wait for two seconds, turn it off, then back on again and read the fuel pressure. Pressure should be: 260 - 310 kPa (2.7 - 3.2 kgf/sq.cm, 38 - 48 psi)
  4. Reconnect vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Pressure should be: 210 - 250 kPa (2.1 - 2.8 kgf/sq.cm, 30 - 37 psi) If the fuel pressure is not as specified, first check the fuel pump. If the fuel pump is OK, check the following:
    • If the fuel pressure is higher than specified, inspect for:
    • Pinched or clogged fuel return hose or line.
    • Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
    • If the fuel pressure is lower than specified, inspect for:
    • Clogged fuel filter.
    • Faulty fuel pressure regulator.
    • Fuel line leakage.
