'86 should be carb, and not injected. Should only really need the ignition box from the '86, unless your running a/c then you will need more info

Have 86 mustang gt.know syncros out of 1st.been cradling along till rebuild.last nite while sitting in gear started makin grinding noise.could something have let loose inside?

your tranny is probably lunched! if you can find a used, or re-built replacement- would prob. be cheaper than new- if you can find that! if the car is high mileage, and starting to 'nickle&dime' you to poverty- then seek out a newer used vehicle to replace it! perhaps a newer 5.0!
good luck!

1997 960 volvo.think? auto tranny pump makes whinny noise cold.

Your transmission is going to fail sooner or later, the whining noise you hear is the the clutch packs in the transmission going out.

Ignition key wont turn

Make sure car is in park then try moving ignition switch back towards you and then forward as if trying to start it. That seemed to work for our 86 Dodge 600 auto.

TRANSMISSION

The two wheel drive tranny won't work because it will be longer. The tranny that came out of the 4 wheel drive is shorter and the transfer case bolts to the rear of the tranny thus it has a shorter output shaft and a different spline to accommodate the transfer case. You need to find the correct tranny unless you want to change the internals from one tranny to the other.
