The speedmeter and odometer does not work regularlly. However once in a while it will work for a few miles and quit. The rest of the panel works. Thanks

There is a plastic gear in the speedometer that eventually breaks on mechanical speedometers called an odometer drive gear. This will involve removing the speedometer from the instrument cluster in the dash.

It could have went out, but you might check plug, or grounds. If just the odometer and speed quit, you could have a bad vehicle speed sensor in the transmission

SPEEDOMETER TROUBLESHOOTING

Can be loose speedo wiring connectors under instrument panel or its issue with speed sensor on transmission.

Does your odometer work? If it does, then I would suspect the stepper motor in the instrument cluster that drives the speedometer is bad. If the odometer does not work then the problem is with the speed sensor that is located on the transmission.

Sounds like you have a bad vehicle speed sensor which will also cause your odometer (the mileage guage) not to function as well. The sensor mounts near the back of the transmission

It is most likely the speed sensor in the transmission.

not really able to trouble shoot this .. uhh you may need a new instrument panel.. this is something that a dealer will have to look at as it is illegal to mess with yourself.. But if it were me.. i would hook up an aftermarket odometer.. something you can take out.. and your engine will never gain any miles :) :) odometer would be just so you know the actual mileage.. ever go to sell it.. LOW MILES :)

in the Fuse Box there are Fuses for this. They are labeled as "Guages" "Illumination"and Speed on some Models. Get a Flashlight and look Really close at the Fuses. There should be at least one that is Blown.
