Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

Pulling a code p1870

Ok, I bought this car less than a month ago, a couple of days after I bought it it pulled a p1870 code. Took it to the dealer and he sent me off to the transmission shop where they installed a new torque converter and solenoid and was told that would fix my problem. Got the car back and less than a week later its pulling the same code. Any suggestions?

car is a 2001 pontiac sunfire

The car has been "bucking" and losing power when driving or accelerating. When it first happened, I checked the oil, added oil, and the problem stopped. Now months later, the problem of bucking and losing power has returned, but even after I add oil, the problem comes back in a couple of days or less. I checked today and found oil collecting near the IMRC Actuator and a friend said he saw more around the IMRC Solenoid.

Why did my check engine light go off on its own? (p1870 code)

The fault is gone. What ever caused the problem is no longer there.
When the computer no longer detect fault it shuts off light. Maybe transmission had a short time problem

Check engine light and airbag light came on; now car will not start

I have run into this problem a few times where the dealer replacing the sensor and a month later light back on, take car back it may need a program update and sensor may be bad or crank sensor may need replacing.
I would have the code scanned at a local auto parts store and if the code is the cam then take it back to dealer to see what has happened.
The car i was working on had a cam sensor problem, replaced the sensor and light came back with same code. sent to dealer and dealer said after market part was bad, car needed an oem part, so they replaced it and in a few days same problem . took car back and this time they installed a program update and so far so good.

CODE P1870,P0420

P1870 generally means that the transmission is slipping. P0420 relates to an issue with a vehicles catalytic converter. To know specifically what each code is, as it relates to your vehicle, you should take it to a local auto-part store (like AutoZone and have them pull the codes off of your vehicle. At auto part stores, they generally do this service for free and it is pretty quick. Regards ~ JD

I bought a new hyundai accent back in 2006, after 2 years the dealer replaced a faulty starter motor, that is now ok,about 18 months ago one of the coils broke down, that was replaced, about 6 months later...

Hyundia are the best car in the world. Sorry, but they are getting better. I haven't heard of a harness issue. anyway the coils have the ground in common, but the hot wires are separate. probably got there coil packs from china( junk). And I have seen coil packs break down one after the other on different models. Hopefully the dealer is using a better grade of coils. You might even ask them to go ahead and replace the rest of them, seeing there is an issue there. You just never know.

OK the blazers are prone to stopping up the cat. Start the engine and run it for 5-10 mints. feel the cat on both ends, the pipe going in and the pipe going out, if it is cooler on the out going end she is clogged up and just buy you a generic will fit cause they are less costly.

Headlight problem suzuki forenza 2005 low beam headlight and day running lights no working fuses and relay are ok.

You probably need a new combination switch, located in the steering column, integrated into the control lever for lights. Remove airbag (if you have one) and then pull off steering wheel to access switches. We bought ours at you-pull junkyard, but I believe AutoZone also carries them for far less than dealer price.

Radiator fluid evaporation or leak?

Just had the same problem! I have never had any problems out of my van and just had all fluids checked a month ago before going on vacation. One day it just started overheating and I had to urn the heater to pull the heat off of the motor to keep it cool enough to get it home. I put over a gallon of coolant in it and filled up the reserve tank. The next morning I took my kids to school about 4 miles away and my van started to miss really bad and the check engine light would come on every time I pressed down on the accelerator. I took it home and opened the hood and the reserve coolant tank was empty in just 8 miles of travel so I called the dealer and had them pick it up on a rollback since it is still under warranty. The dealer said it was a leak in the rear heater pipes that circulate antifreeze/coolant to the rear of the vehicle to supply heat for the rear heater and the miss was from the heat of the engine burning the spark plugs. So far it is a dealer item only and parts and labor are about $352. The vehicle will not leave any puddles when running while in park, only leak while moving, so they tell me. The dealer bypassed it somehow until my parts come in and my van drives fine. The pipes (maybe hoses, unsure) are actually a series of 3 that must be replaced. I may try to change them myself if they are just hoses.
