Ticking or knocking sounds during acceleration CAN be oil-related, but unless your car has extremely high mileage, it is doubtful. A more realistic possibility is that the fuel you are using may be at too low an octane and you are getting what is known as "octane ping". Some cheaper gasoline vendors will try to get by on this from time to time. Try changing the brand of fuel you are using, or maybe put some mid-grade in the tank rather than regular. If the problem goes away, you've found your culprit.
Knocking is likely exhaust system, even if you can't see anything loose. Internal muffler or converter parts are likely bad/loose. Outside smell of fuel may be bad gas cap, or emissions system, which would not need to leak fluid, just fumes.
Hey Kimberly... First... is the noise a high pitched ticking or a lower pitched knocking or clunking?? ...this is IMPORTANT>>
Reply to me on here..please...
forget the boyfriend and take it to an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis and quote
knocks are big ends or mains , and ticks are hydraulic followers
all could be a bad cam but a proper diagnosis will make sure
The ticking is the hydaulic tappets refilling with oil, best advice is take the car for a good run and let the temperature get up on the engine, if the ticking is still there then a lack of oil has caused damage to the tappets, and most likely it will continue to make that noise, you can replace them cheaply enough if you do it yourself, but its not a jobv for a novice.
Hope this helps
regards
dan
p.s it could run like that for 20k miles, it shouldt damage anything just a bit annoying
Have your valve clearance checked for that noise. As well as the diesel smell, fuel lines must be checked for leaks. If your car is emitting heavy smoke, and it seems to loose power going uphill, your engine must be due for overhauling. However, if your problem is just knocking and diesel smell, valve clearance adjustment and fuel line check up will correct the problem.
sounds like a valve out of adjustment im not completly sure what type of valve system this car has, most of the time if you have a ticking or knocking noise from the top side its in the rocker arm being too loose and its knocking around as it pumpes back and forth...
i would need a little more info from you such as what car, year and engine ...
Is it a ticking or knocking noise? or does it sound like something is leaking could be a bad manifold gasket which would be better than a ticking or knocking.
Sounds like a lifter noise. worn lifters can't keep oil in them anymore so over night the oil leaks out. when you start the vehicle, you will hear a ticking noise or knocking noise till the lifters fill with oil again. only remedy is to replace the lifters.
you could try an additive but it's temporary.
