Was the volt light on before or after you replaced your battery? If it was on before you replaced the battery, you might need to replace your alternator. You may also have some after-market items installed that are drawing more current than your alternator can handle.

98 chevy lumina wont start replaced starter and VATS relay only get click no crank what next?

Hey Todd how's it going ? How's the battery ? battery connections ? Are there any lights lit on the dash , security , check engine ? Because your getting a clicking there is nothing wrong with the theft deterrent relay ! Take a volt meter on the 20 volt scale an put negative lead at the negative battery post , then take your positive lead an put it on s terminal small wire on the starter solenoid an have someone turn the key to start position , you should see battery voltage . If you see battery voltage there is nothing wrong with the theft deterrent relay ! or the crank circuit. You need to do a voltage drop test on the starting system ! I'm thinking possible battery cable ! Starter Voltage Drop . you do know that you replaced a starter for no good reason !

The battery runs down when 1993 lumina sets overnight

You have a parasatic load. use an ammeter and connect it in series with battery ground post and battery ground cable . Make sure vehicle is off and all accessories are off .AS A RULE OF THUMB (if you don't have specs) ANY READING OVER A HALF OF A VOLT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. Start pulling fuses until voltage returns to normal(0.50 volts) or whatever spec's say. The fuse you pulled that made voltage return to normal is the affected circuit. Find its short and repair it. Had several lunina's were the head light switch was the villan. Good luck.

Volt light on Chevrolet Lumina 3.1L 1997

Your alternator is not charging your battery. I could be the belt, regulator or alternator. You need to fix this as it will strand you when the battery is drained of power.

Car starts but volts light stays on 1996 chevy lumina

This usually indicates your altenator is not working properly and should be replaced.

You can confim this by hooking a DC volt meter to a power source and when the car is running you should see 13.6 volts (or more)

My 1994 chevorlet lumina apv-3.1 motor: when you

when you say car lost power bought a new battery.sound like alternator not charging battery.with car running your voltage at battery should be 13.5 volts or 14.5 volts it not alternators need replacing.have garage replace alternator if faulty because 1993 to 1994 cars if you disconnect battery car would lose memory causing car not to idle.the car will stall out at a stop light or stop sign whole lot.it would relearn itself but the stalling out dangerous around a lot of traffic.

After driving for 3/4 of an hour the lights started to dime and then the engine started slowing down and the quit

It sounds like the alternator has gone bad and needs to be replaced. The alternator has stopped charging the battery which cause the lights to dime and when the voltage dropped below 10.5 volts the ECM stopped sending signals to the fuel injectors to inject fuel in the the engine. If you have a volt meter and can jump start the van, check to see what the volts are at the battery post. You should have 13.5 to 14.5 volts with the engine running and with the engine not running there should be 12 volts for a fully charged battery. Auto Zone sells the alternator for your van and can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools and should take you about 2 hours if your good with tools. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to answer any more questions you may have.

Ok had a code read po300 changed the coils, control module, wires, plugs new battery had starter and alternator checked they are good this is a 1996 chevy lumina 3.1 motor.getting upset cause can't figure...

if your having a drain on the battery there is a short most likely in a relay. what this means is even though every thing on the vehilce is shut off a relay is allowing voltage to flow causing a drain. For example lets say that a dome light appears to be out however in that circuit a relay is stil;l closed so the voltage is allowed to follow through that circuit.. now the easiest way to check for a drain is to have the vehicle running. then turn everything on in the vehicle radio/ac/dome light/etc. then take a test light and hook to the battery. now one by one shut off each function each time seeing if the the voltage rises( it should always rise when you turn off a function). if after all the functions are turned off and your voltage reeading isn';t at least 12.5 volts then remove the positive battery cable while vehicle is still running if the vehicle stalls then the regulater i9nside the altenator is the cause.
