I have a 1999 dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 5.9L motor automatic. while coming home from an out of town trip, we put gas into the truck and a quart of transmission fluid in. once on the freeway it almost immediately started jerking and the rmps would rev up then drop back down. it felt as if something was slipping. we thought it might be the tires because it was raining cats and dogs and such. an hour later or so we started up a steep pass in the snow so we pulled over to put it in 4-wheel drive. thats when it completely stopped engaging. we can shift the gear shift all day long but nothing will make the wheels move.
any idea if this is a completely fubared transmission or if we just have a bad transmission control solenoid or something?

I have 1999 Dodge 1500 gas motor. It has a high idle and when I let off the gas it stalls out. The truck also has a engine light on. What do I do??????
It still sounds like you have a restricted cooler. Does it have just one in the radiator or does it have a secondary one in front of the condenser. Have you checked the cooler flow? At least one quart in 20 seconds. Also 46re transmissions only flow in drive unless you update the valvebody.
If it's electric just take the line off intake and put it in a cup or something to catch the gas. Turn on key for a moment and see if any gas comes out. You can usually hear pump in take run. If it's mechanical pump, take it off intake into a cup and crank the motor over a couple times. Do all this with engine cold. If no gas, change pump. Some times changing gas cap helps.
ummm i would say you need to adjust your trans shift cable, check your fluid level, and the problem i had with my dodge was similar to yours... it was my 3rd-4th actuator spring, it had broke and couldnt hold the pressure to keep it in gear
Manual 6 quarts Automatic depends on why it's being added. If bone dry try 8 quarts and check. Always check warm in no gear, if you can't be carefullllll not to over fill. Atf +4 is what dodge automatic. take
