Probably the fuel pump case cracked, or the o-ring sealing the pump. You need to find the fuel pump , on the trunk floor, or under the back seat (you wasn't specific about the model). Then you must check what's wrong with it.The best way is to leave it visible while You're pumpin' the gas. Good luck.

The fuel tank has lines that go out of it for different jobs. One of this plastic lines helps the gas fumes to breathe out in to the atmosphere throu a filter, so if this line is clogged for some reason no air can get out when you pump the gas in, so it spills it out. Locate this line and replace or unclogge it and hopefully this will cure you problem

My auto fiat punto smells of petrol after i put some in when i start driving what causes this and how can it be fixed

sounds like the fuel filler cap breather hole is blocked.also when you top up with fuel always close the windows/doors as benzine in gas is the most poisonous substance known.you should never stand upwind when filling up.(check out benzoates on wiki)

What is the engine oil capacity of the Fiat Strada 1.7td (2005)?

4 litres i think. If you unsure just drain the sump pan. Refit the plug and pour it in 1ltr at a time. go steady tho coz the strada is slow filling pour it too fast and you end up rust proofing your garage floor. LOL

Fiat punto acceleration problems

nikki,

I had a similar problem with a 98 sporting. It turned out to be firstly the clutch had worn down to almost nothing and the fuel filter hadn't been changed in a good while so it got clogged. I would do the filter first. (located just under the drivers side near the rear wheel.
