Question about Oldsmobile Bravada

I have a 1998 olds Bravada New A/C System, new climate control head. Heres the problem: compressor will not shut off, just runs no cycling. What would cause that? Whats the fix?

Check the for leak in ac sys. and check relay switch.

Check that the wiring for the compressor clutch is connected. Have the system checked for the correct amount of gas as too little or too much will stop the clutch of the compressor. If the old compressor failed and the system didn't have a new receiver/dryer fitted there is every possibility that the tx valve is blocked. have the pressure in the system checked while running.as a blockage will switch off the clutch also.

It sounds like the system is fried. Based on the description, it is just pulling in the outside air and not doing anything to heat or cool the flow. Unfortunately, this is a job for your preferred mechanic.

Still looking for a solution for my 98 Olds Bravada. Will only blow hot air. We've changed the blend door motor. Still only turns to the hot side. We've changed the Climate Control Head and the blend door...


Check your wiring with an ohm meter. Also ckeck the plugs at both ends and make sure there aren't any pins pushed out or bent. And just to throw this in, you may have bought a bad motor. You have other motors on the plenum, try swapping them to see if you get results. If they are accessible. Good luck

Climate control issues, heat stays on even when switch is off. What might the problem be?


98 olds. bravada. alternator and battery played out, so i installed both new ones easy money.the problem it created was my a/c damper door constantly opens and closes no matter what you turn the controls to. its working as far as the a/c but the air mix door want stay in the position it needs to stay in to keep getting cold air. i have checked every thing i possibly can. just so you know all was working perfect untill i had to put the battery and alternator on it. please help my truck gas mileage sucks,and the bravada is tolerable but cant its hot in va.

My climate contol on a 98 olds bravada stopped working. The interior control panel will not light up and it is constantly blowing cold air. I had the fuse checked and they are fine. Any one have any ideas


The entire control panel is notorious for shorting out - thats why they are very hard to find at junk yards - very easy to replace - dash faceplate has to be removed and then just a few screws - unplug and replace.

Does the AC come on and stay on? If so it will be either in the heater control head or a blend door or blend door motor!

Hi, oK ASSUMING THERE IS THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FREON IN THE SYSTEM (2.0 LBS) THE SYSTEM IS PROBABLY LOGIC LOCKED.THIS CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE CADILLACS HVAC CLIMATE CONTROL HEAD GETS CONFUSED,USUALLY AFTER A RECHARGE.HERES WHAT U CAN TRY.REMOVE THE NEG BATTERY CABKE FOR 1 MINUTE,THEN RECONECT IT,START THE CAR AND PUT THE AC ON (60 DEGREES FULL FAN) THAT SHOULD DO THE TRICK HOPEFULLY. THAMKS RAY.

I was told that I would need a compressor, an actuator, and a control head to remedy the constant heat flow in my 98 Bravada... Can you tell me the part name and or where I can purchase the control head


I've been dealing with this for a couple of weeks now on my 98 blazer. I have access to schematics and a scan tool which makes it a little easier. My experience has been with the automatic climate control system. I don't know very much about the manual control. There are several possible problems. The most likely, is that one of the gears in the blend door actuator is cracked. Therefore, the blend door is stuck in one position. The actuator CAN be accessed through the glove box but it is tight. On the left hand side you will see a vacuum controlled lever. That is for the defrost (if you turn the truck on and switch the vent position switch back and forth you will see it move). The blend door actuator is behind that so its easier to remove that vacuum diaphragm to gain access. The overdrive problem mentioned earlier could also be a problem. To reset this, turn the truck off, remove the RDO fuse for 30 seconds, replace the fuse, then turn the key to the run position. This will start a calibration cycle to reteach the computer where the maximum and minimum rotation points are so that it doesn't overdrive. If, after doing this procedure, the hvac system cycles back and forth from heat to cool there is probably a code set in the Climate control module  and it may be time to get a dealer with a scan tool involved. On my truck and at least one other truck I have found out about, the control module is unable to sense the location of the actuator door (that is what causes it to "overdrive"). You can verify if your module is over driving by removing the blend door actuator but leaving the electrical connector on. Turn the truck on, cycle to heat. The visible gear should rotate one direction then stop. Cycle to cool. The gear should rotate the other way and then stop. If it doesn't stop there may be something wrong with the control module. You can buy the part at Auto Zone or you can go to the Salvage Yard and pick one up for $20.00 and you can get a better understanding to how to remove the old one from a salvage Bravada, blazer, or jimmy of the same years.
