I own a 1997 Lexus Es 300. For the past three or four months the security system has been malfunctioning. When I remove the key from the ignition, the doors lock without my having done anything to activate them. When I open the car door, the alarm goes off, not the horn, just the buzzer. If I get near the car with the remote, the car beeps. I had a mechanic check it and he could find nothing wrong with his computer analysis. What's going on?

Even if the remote is fairly new they can lose their programming you may have to have it re-programed

gently pop off surrounding plastic trim .It's held in by clips then remove screws that hold radio in place.

No, it would not cause a miss-fire. What oil did you use, wrong weight?

Unscrew the gas cap, wait 30 sec and screw it back on making 3 clicks/cracks. Should be ok in a day or two.

1. I presume your button on the dash (which opens the trunk) is not working. You could take that button out of the dash panel and manually activate the circuit by using the wires themselves.
2. If the "valet" key doesn't fit the trunk lock, see if the keys are visible through the center back seat access 'hole', make a wire hook attached to a broom handle, etc. and try to catch the ring the key is on. If the view is blocked by other things you can't move, figure out at way to move things in the trunk so you can get something to reach the key(s). Do you have other metal keys on the same keyring? If so, use a magnet to grab the whole set.
3. Have you considered taking out the rear seat? Do the bottom seat cushion first, then the back.
4. By now you have hopefully already gotten your keys back out of the trunk, but if not I hope one of these suggestions works. MW

Is this a factory alarm? If so then you MUST take it to a Lexus dealer, they are the only ones equipped to test and repair problems such as this, that is why dealers cost more, all that equipment cost a small fortune.
