The power steering started out with shutting off while we were driving. Now it is completely out. My husband has been driving the car and says that the steering would go out more frequently when the air conditioning was on high. It has only done this for about 2 weeks, and now there is no power steering! What can we do?????????

I am driving down the road and suddenly the "power steering" light comes on, and it becomes difficult to turn. Once I stop, turn the car off and restart it, it handles fine for several minutes, then does the same thing all over again. Is it the pump? or does it simply need power steering fluid? Also, the key sticks and I have to struggle to remove the key 98% of the time. I wonder if this is also a common problem for those who drive a Chevy Cobolt?????????

IF so many of us are having problems it should be recalled in stead of us spending money we do not have. Some of us it is hard to find the parts. If we spend money on the electric power steering from a salvage yard or ebay there is no grantee we won't have the same problem.

I don't blame these people for getting mad. It should be recalled it has happened to too many that is not being reported

I had the same problem you need to replace the power steering motor, you can buy them for under 100 dollars on Ebay or at a salvage yard. Not very hard to do either.

Car shutting off

Hi,
whilst i am not familiar with the actual car i would say...
if it cuts out immediately then its electrical...check coil, ignition amplifier etc.
If the car cuts slowly by losing power, spluttering etc it will be fuel related....fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter.
Does the car restart immediately or do you have to leave it for a while?
what happens just prior to the vehicle shutting down?

Chevy cavalier 2002 shut off while driving, power steering went out and brakes. i turned car off and it restarted what was it and how can i fix it?

Ther is a problem with some computers in that they shut down the engine for no apparent reason. This problem hounded Kia owners as the engine just stopped at lights but restarted with no problems. Check for any fault codes and check for circuit problems with alternator as some cpu's get their power directly from the alternator and it has to be full voltage or they sense a power failure and shut down.

Power steering locked up one day going down road, car died, and every since u can turn it over but it wont crank?? help!!!!

Remove the power steering belt from the power steering pump. Try to restart. Sounds like the power steering pump froze up. If the belt drives more than the power steering pump (like the alternator), you will have drained the battery and the engine will not start. replace pump, charge battery, replace belt....hopefully drive. Good luck.
