Turned key and not a sound. Pulled battery, battery tested good. Put it back in after a 7 min. charge. Started every time for about four days then again not a sound when I turned the key. Took it to dealership, they replaced the door screem then againg started and ran fine for a few days then while going on highway in traffic doing about 8 miles an hour, dead engine. Not a warning, no sounds. Dealership said that it has them puzzled. Nothing in bank about a problem. Any ideas what the problem can be?

The same thing happened to me. I was on my way to work. Put the key in the inition, no response. The radio, lights, nothing would work. I took the car to autoriley and they charged the battery. The car ran on the same battery for about 10 months, and then it happened again. I think the best thing to do is just to replace the battery!

I would buy a new battery as it sounds like the battery has had its day.

Battery dead...cannot get the cargo hatch open without power.

If you jump started and nothing happened then you have a poor connection or your jump leads were too small. You need welding cable size leads and heavy clamp to get the current to a dead car. Leads the size of straw won't do it. Get it connected properly and retry. Try connecting to the starter terminal, then open the trunk, then try from the battery end. A good home mech should be able to work it out.

How to reprogram key fob after jump starting dead battery.

what you are missing is that the key fob relates to the immobiliser that has a corrupt program from the dead battery. The keys will be ok so use a scanner to reset the immobiliser in the cpu program. Just reset the ecm and the immobiliser will reset

1996 jag xjs , the battery is dead , I need to jump start it but the trunk won't open ,battery in the trunk , can it be jumped from under the hood ? and why won't the trunk open even with a key ?

The trunk latch is operated by a solenoid which it requires power to operate. since the batery is flat then it won't work. I'm not sure where the positive terminal is under the hood but you can connect the positive lead to the alternator wire terminal, and the negative lead can be connected any where on the engine.
Good luck......

Red immobiliser light flashing rapidly

a blown fuse will not emit a smell unless its blown violently, This means dead short, If you have a dead short that would explain the dead battery and the lack of co operation of the jumping it. Has the car got a system in it? this is going to have to be a large short to create what your describing

Car will not start, completely dead, no lights flashing..Battery is new and charged....could it be the immobiliser, how do I check?

MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS TESTED BY A KRAGEN OR AUTOZONE WITH A LOAD TESTER, IT IS FREE, ALSO IF THE CABLES ARE MAKING A POOR CONNECTION IT WON'T TAKE A JUMP, ALSO AN OPEN BATTERY PLATE CAN CAUSE THIS NO JUMP SITUATION, HAVE U LOCKED AND UNLOCKED THE DOOR WITH THE KEY TO DISARM THE ALARM BEFORE TRYING TO START WITH A JUMPER HOOKED UP?

Jump starting a car with an immobiliser

use another vehicle and start by connecting the jump leads from the negative on one battery to the negative on the other and do the same with the positive, the positive is the one with the cross or the red wires. dont worry if u get a little spark when connecting the jump leads its perfically normal, then simply start the other vehicle up and leave it running for aruond 5 minuates then try starting your can.(you may need to rev the other car up a bit to raise the power being transfered) be very careful not to put the jump leads on the wrong terminals.
i hope this advice helps u,
can you please rate this advice

Lanos will not turn over

do you have a clicker for the locks/alarm? try resetting the alarm from there, also disconnecting the battery (i think you said you tried this) temporarily almost always resets anti theft systems.... another thing to try is leave the car alone for at least 15 mins, this allows the short term system to reset itself which might help. when all else fails call the dealer in the morning :) hope this helps
