A locksmith will be able to help you, and they'll take an eye for a price, because the key won't be released. This is due to the usual wear and tear in the switch mechanism. The key bezel will look fine, but the teeth are almost gone. Go to a junk yard and try to find one with keys in it. Test it first, cuz you never know. Or buy a new one at the dealer, for a slightly high price.

before you do that , if it is an automatic , check your neutral start switch. to answer your question , no you do not have to pull the steering wheel . You will have to pull the upper and lower steering column covers behind the steering wheel to access to the ignition switch assembly.
First try turning the steering wheel and jiggling the key simultaneously. If this doesn't work, your problem could be caused by the link between the ignition lock and the switch. Have your ignition switch and your key tumbler assembly replaced. It's an 08. It's under warranty !
