Question about 1992 BMW 3 Series

2 Answers

A couple days ago I found that someone had put sugar in my gas tank not once but one day after another. The first day the car ran fine and like the first day ran fine the 2nd day. For fear of damaging the engine I have undertakem the job of removing the tank. Upon disconnecting the filler tube I tried pouring water down the neck and nothing came out. This leads me to believe that most of the sugar was trapped in the neck. My question is what type of solution should i use to clean the tank and how many times should i do the was routine before reinstalling the tank? FYI: 89 325I BMW 6cyl with 163K anything else i should worry about given the yr and mileage?

My my my sounds like some people have some terrible grudges against you pal, non of that is any of my concern. Your going to want to go to your local auto parts store ie, autozone, advanced auto parts ect ect. And you need to ask them if they have fuel tank cleaning solvents, not fuel injector cleaner or gum out non of that will work, if the problem is the filler neck and only the filler neck then you might want to look into purchasing a new filler neck to be on the safe side.

Hope this can help you

Someone pour sugar in gas tank

did your engine get hot the second time. if it was me i would have an estimate for everything to be perfect and take the person who did it and take them to court. sugar could ruin your engine, and you could do the same if u run it too lean, cause your cyl head temp could get really hot.

My car wont start engine turns over but doesnt start like ist recieving no gas

Considering it ran fine after pump replacement for awhile then it is probably a fuel issue. Couple things it could be. 1. you could have a ton of sediment in gas tank and it keeps clogging up your pump. 2. you could have blocked fuel filter and or clogged injectors.

After having problems getting 1997 chevy truck to go faster then 40-45mph i replaced the fuel pump, ran fine for little over a week. drove it couple days ago went to leave it started ran for couple seconds...

HELLO: It could be a frozen gas line and or stopped up filter, filter is on drivers side under the truck, looks like over sized small coke can with a connection on both ends. Thats the first place I would check.

was the fuel filter changed. and you should also check plugs and wires.for a missfire problem. if you dont get proper spark to plugs, it will misfire and be sluggish. have a good day !!

please tell me you have not been driving around after finding sugar in the tank, cos if you have, and the sugar has gone right through the system, it is going to cost you thousands......new tank/new fuel lines.new carb or injectors, even pistons and valves.....(what happens when you put sugar on a spoon and heat it.....)ive got to say it, HOW STUPID.

Sugar in gas tank

if it still starts then your ok.remove gas tank and dump fuel.clean out any sugar on bottom of tank.go throuh the fuel pump hole. use a water hose if needed then let it dry.fill up tank and just run it it will be ok. what sugar does to an engine [and never mind myth busters, they are wrong] ive seen it 4 times, someone in town was having fun with sugar in the tank.anyways with enough sugar in gas tank the sugar disolves in the fuel.then engine, especially the valve stems get hot and sugar becomes a molten goo on the parts, valves, pistons, cylinders, fuel injectors.only the hot parts seem to be effected. then when you turn the engine off the sugar cools and becomes hard like a piece of hard candie.the valve stems are now locked into valve guides and cannot open or close,it takes alot more driving to damage pistons and rings only a little sugar is injected on every intake stroke and its aimed right at the valve stem.one mile of driving i dought will cause problems. beware that if the sugar was poured it dry you will need to flush out the filler neck.if it was dry then very little got in the tank anyway, unless you put gas in it after sugar was added

I empty gas tank and put new gas. could it be something is clogged?

It is a myth that sugar will mess your car up. Sugar does not dissolve in gas, it will just sit in the bottom of the gas tank. You will need to drop the tank and have it cleaned, and replace the in-tank fuel filter, but anything upstream of the fuel filter will be okay.

IS IT THE FUEL PUMP, INJECTOR OR FILTER??

two baic reasons... you can buy it... not on purpose of course but water gets into the gas station tanks for a couple reasons.
second if you happen to live in an area where fall is fast approaching and the temperature is changing during the day/evening you'll get condensation. just to give you an example.... when you go out in the morning to jump in your car you'll see a layer of moisture on your car.... it's not restricted to the outside of the car. one way to avoid that is to keep your tank completely filled with gas. considering the price of gas you would need to take out a second mortgage on your home to do that.
it's handy to buy a six pack of those little bottles of gas line antifreeze and keep them in your trunk... every time you fill up the tank add one.

pretty much any auto store will have them.... even walmart etc will have them as well.
