If they are provided to open from inside, inspect opening cable proper operation and free passes through to reach their lock lever.

I have a 94 STS that had the same problem with the trunk. The release switch in the glove box had to be replaced. On mine the both the button for the trunk and the fuel door are in one assembly. Replace the switch or switches and this should take care of the problem. I found a good switch at a salvage yard, the dealer was expensive.

Open the port and look closely at the spot where the lever holds it closed.Does it appear it isn't fully lining up with the latch?If you slightly tweak the cover inward it should grab alot better and save you from having to replace the latch. : )

Carefully examin the locking mechanism on the lid, you will notice the device uses electromagnetic lock type system, Basically it turns a lever or pushes a pin lock, All you got yo do is tighten (close in ) the brackets on eighter the lid or the shell itself so it will hold tighter, Chances are its worn out. If the adjustments dont work you will need to replace the mechanism. As wear and tear it may have worn out or lost workability.

Hi,

To my understanding, there are only two (2) ways either the trunk or the gas port cover may be opened; remote or the release buttons just above the parking brake.

Probably reasons then are:

  • sticking keys in the remote. due to dirt, perspiration dust and grime the contact switches may inadvertently switch on by themselves. Try opening the remote, perform cleaning of the switches, use electronic contact cleaner and a can of compressed air where applicable. You may also want to check the voltage and current of the battery. Additionally, you may want to do a reset by simultaneously pressing on the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons for about 10 seconds while near the vehicle.
  • intermittent contact internally to the button releases switch. Try to remove the wiring temporarily and see if the problem persists, if not then replace the switches. You may also want to check the wiring and connector for any abrasion, cuts, nicks or partial shorts.
  • try toggling the "Valet" switch inside the glove compartment;
  • visual inspect the latching mechanism for wear and tear. Often there are plastic inserts on the latch. Any sign of break, weak would necessitate replacement;
  • If all else fails and the problem happens more often after a car wash or a downpour, pls check the sunroof for any leak with particular attention to the left side drain.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: 99 eldorado. trunk and gas door pop open

There is corrosion at the positive battery cable and the terminal is probably  about to fall out of the battery. Clean battery terminals, replace bolts and spacer if applicable and recommend battery replacement

The gas cap won't pop open.. makes a noise.. i am almost out of gas

There is no other release. Take it to a mechanic or the dealer. Or else just force the door open to reach the cap. Is it just a door cover or the fuel cap itself?

I can't open my trunk or gas door on a 2001 lexus ls 430

At the driver side junction box (DSJB), check the 10A FUEL OPN fuse which is the source of power for the fuel door. The power is applied to the fuel lid opener switch that, when closed, activates the fuel lid opener motor and...POP!

Also at the DSJB, check the 15A ECU-IG fuse which supplies power to BODY ECU 1. At the passenger side junction block, check the 20A P FR DOOR fuse. Next, at engine room relay block 1, check the 10A MPX-B fuse. These three fuses apply to BODY ECU 1 which controls luggage compartment door operation. TSW output from the ECU is applied to the luggage compartment dooe opener switch which, when closed, activates the luggage compartment door opener motor and...POP!

How do you fill the gas tank?

IM SORRY BUT THAT IS FUNNY.

No seriously now.....if the release in the trunk wont work then the relaese may be stuck, frozen, or broken.

While you are pulling the one in the trunk, you or someone else use something like a small screwdriver to pop the lid open, then leave it open till you find out whats wrong with the release.

By the way, just so you know, those gas doors will not stop anyone from syphoning your gas. A screwdriver will pop that door open in 1/2 second, its more cosmetic and a slight deterent.

My lever wont open my gas door....help i need gas.actually even the trunk lever wouldnt open the trunk.....finally the trunk lever i was able to pull up and then i couldnt ...

Hello. Here is what I need you to do:

Have someone pull the gas door release. With a credit card, or something like it, popsicle stick, nail file, etc, insert it at the side of the door that opens, not the hinged side. While your assistant is pulling the lever, see if you can manually pull the door open. If it opens, you have a broken fuel door spring. Toyota parts depts sell them for 3 dollars. The spring is there to "pop" the door open, when you pull the lever. If it is broken, and they break rather often, it needs replaced.

How do you open the fuel cap door on a volkswagen jetta without the power door button

Pushing the door with your hand isn't going to help, but after digging through a lot of info online, I succeeded in doing this. You have to peel back the lining of the trunk on the right side. Once you get a chance to look in there, there's a somewhat transparent white box inside the trunk near the gas cap. Attached to that is a small metal arm that connects to the inside of the gas cap release.

Tug on that piece of metal, and you'll pop open the gas cap.
