Question about 1993 Ford Ranger SuperCab
What is the best way to break the bolt free to get to the crankshaft sprocket?
Pull a spark plug out. Make it one that is easy to get to, it doesn't matter which one. After removing the spark plug, move the crank so the piston is at the bottom of the bore. Get a long piece of rope and stuff as much of it into the hole as you can get into it. I use a long screwdriver to stuff the rope in the plug hole. This rope now becomes a piston stop. Now you can get a socket on the crank bolt and remove it. You may need a long breaker bar and a floor jack handle to pop the bolt loose. After you break the bolt loose, turn the crank bolt clockwise again a little to remove the rope. Now the crank bolt can be removed and the balancer can be removed.
