Question about 1999 Ford F150 Regular Cab

2 Answers

Misfire I have a 99 xlt f150 4x2 v6, there is a vibration when you start the engine after it heats up, it runs perfectly well. I brought to Ford and they replaced 6 spark plugs. The problem is still there, they now say that the problem is the coil above the spark plug. They told me that it is safe to pull out the unit as I still have to wait for 1 month for the parts. Is it safe for short drives? I am afraid it might breakdown.. Thanks. I am using unleaded gas, just thought it might have an effect(93 octane). Hope you can help me.

How are they going to fix the thread? They replaced the coil pack and after 40 km ride the problem re surfaces. I'll ask the mechanic to check how the 3spark plug holds. Do they need to bring down the engine? Boy, I hope not. I am really frustrated that they seem to be experimenting on my vehicle at my expense. Thanks very much. I'll get back to you as soon as I return my vehicle to Ford. Thanks

Your mechanic really shouldn't be a mechanic it is definatly NOT good for your engine if you remove one of the coils because gas will continue to be injected into the cylinder and then the unburned gas travels through your catylitic converter and this is EXTREMELY bad for it. if the firing order is good, than you can still drive it while you wait for a new coil but DO NOT drive without one.

Check the #3 spark plug. I have one of these "gems", and my trouble started out similarly. I had the vibration and then an exhaust leak. What it was, is the #3 plug blew out of the motor. The threads, in the head, are too weak to hold the plug in. It is a common (and can be expensive) problem to fix.

I have a 99 ford f150. Sometimes it runs perfect, then out of no where when I try to accelerate it vibrates bad and becomea hesitant. When I came to a stop I switched threw all gears and it seems like it...

This sounds like you might have a bad plug wire or something else in the ignition system is arcing to ground. A quick way to verify this is to run the truck in Park at idle. Next, spray the ignition wires with Windex. You'll notice the truck starting to rough up and might even see the bad wire arcing to ground. A complete tuneup would be recommended in this case.
I hope this helps! :)

1996 Ford Explorer XLT V6 - will start but stalls after 5 mins.

This can be cause by many things, such as a fuel pump going bad / or is bad, fuel injectors need cleaned / replaced, fuel filter dirty just to name a few. Could also have a vapor lock where the fuel line is running to close to a heat source like the manifold or engine and the heat creates a vacum in the fuel line stopping the flow of fuel. Best bet have a garage repair shop look at it. To many hit and miss causes.

Could be the diverter valve. It's the one located near the firewall in the engine bay. the valve is in-line on one of the two coolant hoses that run through the firewall. Have a helper rotate the temperature knob back and forth, with the ignition turned on, and you watch to see if the valve is being adjusted. I'm guessing it isn't. Best of luck!

Does the engine crank but just not start? Or... are you cycling the ignition switch without trying to crank the engine? Based on the information you have given, I would first guess that the fuel pump may be going out. I say this because when you first turn the key on the pump primes the engine with pressurized fuel. If the pump is getting old, it may take a few power cycles to get it going. You can test this theory by having somebody listen near the rear of the car while you turn the key on for the first time. The fuel pump make a faint, yet distinctive high pitch noise that can be heard when you turn the key on. Try that first. Next thing you would try is checking the relays for proper function... starting with the fuel pump relay. Good luck.
