Question about 1988 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

1998 wrangler turn signal/brake light short

When right turn signal activated, front turn signal light flashes and all three rear brake lights flash at the same time as does right turn dash turn signal indicator. Front right turn signal lense was cracked and moisture ingress; socket and pigtail had corroded and melted. I cleaned harness terminal and installed new bulb and pigtail to get it operational to this point. Left turn signal circuit works fine as do brake lights, 4-way flashers and tail lights when right turn signal is off. It is not burning any bulbs or fuses. I suspect turn signal switch mechanism has some burnt/shorted contacts from the initial front turn signal light burn out. Is this correct or could it be something else.

I installed a new socket/pigtail as I originally indicated. I fixed the problem by installing a new turn signal/dimmer switch assembly on the steering column. The part was aroung $30 at Advanced Auto Parts and it took me less than an hour to do the job. By the way, it's a 1998, not 1988 Wrangler. Thanks for your assistance.

I have a 1954 Chevy pickup with dealer installed turn signals. The wiring is complete but had no flasher installed. I purchased an after market pigtail and 6 volt three prong bussman #535 flasher and installed them according to the factory accessories wiring diagram. All the lights operate (light up) correctly but they don't flash. Why is that? 'L' on flasher to switch, 'X' to power, and 'P' to indicator light (which doesn't light up) Thanks!

Lights on my 2010 Kia Sportage started going out. I replaced the front right flasher and the rear right flasher and light bulb . Three months later took my Kia in for recall work on the brake lights. Something about them not coming on when needed? And also, my flasher stopped working again. When I took it in for the recall work I told the service lady that I had to recently replaced some of the bulbs. I was told that the reason the bulbs had gone out so soon after being replaced was because I had not used approved Kia bulbs. Anyway, after the recall work was done the brake lights would not shut off even when the car was turned off and keys out of the ignition. I took it back. Was told that there was some oil or goo on the connectors and that is why the flasher had stopped working. They cleaned them and they worked for about 1 week. Then the turn signal went out again. I took it back. I was told that I needed a whole new head light for $250. But explain to me this. My right front turn signal does not work at all; at times neither work and the indicators on the dash do not work; sometimes the left works and indicator light shows that but the right does not work and a fast flashing indicator light shows; when the indicator light does not work at all the flashers do not work at all. Then suddenly for everything works. It is hit and miss. I find that when it is really cold outside my flashers work... but get this...the headlights work just fine and the fuses are in tact.

Your socket may not be grounded properly, I have seen this before, and the simplest way to fix is change the socket with a new one.Not another used one it may also be bad.

Left blinker flash fast, hit brake left blinker goes out left taillight goes out but both backup lights come on

Usually a fast flashing signal is because one of the bulbs is burned out or shorted out. If the signal and brakes use the same light which many cars do then check the wiring to it and replace bulb. If burns out again then it has a short between the signal switch and the actual light or the brake wiring to it is shorted.

I have a 2002 pontiac aztek. My rear right signal/brake lamp does not work. When i signal left, the front and rear left lights flash normally. When i signal right, the front right light flashes normally...

as for the faster flashing thats as simple as a blown bulb, replace the bulb and see if that fixes the problem, it may fix the lot because the other symptoms you mention are a bad connection, if bulb is fine check the connection isnt loose or corroded over. if it is simply file it back to establish better connectivity,

Both rear turn signal lights flash

I did 15a and electrical for over 30 for chevrolet and seen some pretty weird stuff. To me you still have a ground problem.your idea of checking the brake light switch is a good start.both rear lamps flashing to me means the hazards are shorting across the turn and brake light circuits, because hazards stop flashing when brakes are applied. The brakes light switches in the 90's were really weird because they also incorporated the abs system.Good luck, let me know what happens. Thanks
