I have a similar issue where a 1999 Astro Van will turn over but not start. Smoke will also issue from the air intake manifold. It is hit and miss at times.

I have the same type of problem. When it rains real hard and there is a lot of moisture in the air the 1999 Astro 4.3 lithe engine will not start. the engine will crank over but there is no pop in the turnover. when the weather dries out which is over night the engine will start on the first try. A local repair shop says there is nothing he can do unless when he gets the vehicle it does not start. Anyone know what the fix is.

I have the same problem, does anyone know where the computer is located?

I have the same problem when it gets wet or cold. I have had the fuel pump tested and everything tests fine. I have been told that if I change out the distributor cap and ingnition rotor it will solve my problem.

I have had the same problem in trying to start my van. I noticed that it only did this in the rain or high humidity day. In tearing apart my van to find a solution, I had noticed that when trying to start the van, the ignition coil was arcing onto the mount holding it in place. I only noticed this due to the fact that by now, it was dark. After changing the coil, I never ran into this problem again.
I do hope this helps.

I have the same problem, I replaced the fuel pump. Did NOT solve it. i was told that it is a computer problem. The computer is not sending electric to the fuel pump, by cranking it several times the oil pressure builds up and will over ride the computer and send power to the fuel pump. This is a common problem on these asrto vans.

change your plug wires. moisture seeps in over night like dew on the grass in the morning.when the engine warms up, the wires dry out. There's also a relay that runs the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel system when the key is first turned on. it only runs for about 2 seconds when the key is first turned on. after the engine starts, the fuel pump get it's power through the oil pressure switch. this is done in case of an accident and the engine stalls, the oil pressure drops and shut off the fuel flow. if this relay fails, you have to crank the engine until it can build enough oil pressur to power the fuel pump through the oil pressure switch. I'd go with the wires first. The relay would probably make it happen all the time, not just in the morning.

02 suburbsn wont crank, full battery power

I had a similar problem with a 1999 Chevy Astro. All fuses checked out good. Several posts advised cleaning the battery terminals, checking out the ECU to cutting the yellow wire from the ignition switch, check to see if it'll crank on Neutral, and also checking/replacing the brake switch. I simply removed several keys from the key ring, then shot several bursts of air from an air can (some keys are keyed to the ECU to turn off the Security System when attempting to start the engine), then waited several minutes for any condensation to dissipate, then was able to crank the engine to life.

chk in line fuel filter for obstruction, also could be a lot of sediment in the tank clogging up the filter. Hope this helps you resolve your problem.

When it rains , the van just won't start. It cranks , but will not turn over. If it sits on level ground for awhile it seems to crank fine . My mechanic sprayed water over the engine & can't get it to...

Try turning the key on (but don't crank the engine) and wait about 2 minutes, then try and start the van. Anytime mine sits more than overnight, this is the only way it will start, otherwise runs fine.

Hope this helps.
