I went to work car started fine. Then went to start the car and go home and the car would not crank over and the security light is flashing. Wanting to know how to get my car to start

I have the same problem. The car will be starting fine, and then when you go to start it the security light is on and will not allow the car to start. They have already switched the keys, which they thought was the problem, and now they want to charge $70 to bypass the security.

    • Same here, and replaced battery only to feed the security lights and still wont crank,, is it possobly the security system itself , and can it be disarmed ?

Chances are the wire going to ignition broke allowing the security to start flashing.this will keep the
car from cranking. On my 93 bonneville I went to Radioshack and got a 680 ohm resister, cut the 2 small
yellow wires on lower steering column under dash, soldered resister to the 2 yellow wires coming from harness.Cost of repair..$1. you can read the resistance on the key by using ohm meter on each
side of chip in key

Changed ignition switch now security light stays on and truck starts and kills

You need to relearn the passlock system (security). There are 2 ways. One is with a scanner, which most diy'er wont own an expensive one to do it this way, here is the manual way. Start the truck and let it run until it dies. The security light should then be flashing. Leave the key in the run position until the security light stops flashing (about 10-15mins). After the light stops flashing turn the key off. Try to start the truck again. It should do the same thing (run for a few seconds and then die with the security light flashing). Again wait for 10-15 mins for the light to stop flashing and then turn the key off and repeat the process one last time. That's a total of 3 times. Once you finish the process the 3rd time. Let the truck sit for a minute with the key off. It should now be programmed and start and run normally.

No crank security on

security on means your passlock sensor is probably at fault.. you will need the who key barrel and sensor to be changed and reprogrammed. can be done yourself but not easy.

first remove old system and replace new assembly. might be easier to replace the whole column switch and all. once you have changed the parts you now have to reprogram cylinder into computer.
now you might want to hookup a battery charger for this next step
now turning key to crank then leave key on to ignition security light will flash
after 10 minutes the light will stop flashing and then stay on.
now turn key off wait 5 secs.
then turn key to start again then again leave key in ignition.for 10 minutes

you will repeat these steps three times. the fourth time the engine shold turn over and start.

cylinder sensor is now programmed

No keys

If you want to initiate a new master key.... 1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen minutes.
2. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder OFF and then back to the ON (RUN) position. The security light on the dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
3. When the security light stops flashing, you have FIVE minutes to start the next step. Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF and then back ON (RUN) position. The dash will flash for fifteen more minutes.
4. After the security light stops flashing the third time, the new key has been programmed into the vehicles computer and will operate the car. It has replaced ALL the previous electronic key codes and is the ONLY key programmed into the vehicles computer.

The dealership should be able to do this for you without a current key, of course this means towing the vehicle to them. See if they will sell you a key and you program it yourself.

hope this helps. I found the above info at

Key Does Not Work

It could be that chip inside key just went bad. Do u have a 3rd key? That works? If so take the 2 good keys and turn the igntion to run postion for 3 secs each then do the same for the 3rd key and this will reprogram it if the chip is ok. If you do not have 2 good keys then u will have to have a scan tool that will link up with PATS system and perform security access to reprogram it.

your key has been deactivated, try placing the key in the ignition turn the key to on and leave it there for a minimum of ten minutes. then turn the key off and try restarting the car. this should recode the key to the car and it should start. If this dont work you will have to get the key recoded for your car.
