Question about 1998 Mercury Mountaineer

I have a 92 mercury mountaineer 4.6 that rattles at idle. thought it was fly wheel but it wasnt any ideas

Try timing belts or chains. That's what was on mine '98. Problem solved.

If it rattles,timing is too far advanced.Loosen the distributor bolt,Back timing to fastest idle,and advance it just a little to where the idle is changing slower.Not much tho.Lock the distributor bolt and drive it.If still rattles,do it again till it doesn't rattle.The rattle you speak of is called engine nock,because it's firing ahead of time too much.

I wanted to know, how much it cause to replace a idle assemply on a 2004 mountaineer


I am UK so unsure with your currency but I would say your car is fly-by-wire this means the idle is controlled by the throttle body.

These are quite expensive $100 - 300 and $30 - 40 to install.

However, most of the time a reset can resolve an idle fault.

Loud scraping metal noise near the oil pan/ timing belt area


It sounds like the fly-wheel. If that's not it please let me know and if you can get more information that might help too. Good luck.

Mercury sable problems


My Sable started making a clunking noise while idling. It sounds as thought the the rattling sound comes from the drivers side of the motor.. any ideas'
