Question about 1997 Saab 900

2 Answers

Engine overheating I own a 1997 900s convertible. Several days ago the "central warning) symbol and a chime came on. I also noticed that the temperature gauge quickly rose the the H level in the red zone. I stopped the car and turned of the engine. After about 15 minutes I started the car and the temp gauge was in normal range. I did not drive the car over the weekend and decided to take in for repair. On my way to the shop the car overheated again after being driven on the highway (65 to 70mph) for about 10 minutes. This time I noticed that the engine fan did not come on after I stopped the car and there was vapor or smoke coming thru the air/heat vents in to the cabin. There was also a strong odor that smelled like coolant. There was a liquid (coolant?) leak from under the front of the car near the drivers side. I forgot to mention that the coolant level was low when the car initially overheated, but it should not have been because an oil change and fluid check had been done recently. The car was towed to the repair shop and the tech said that the heat core had to be replaced and was responsible for the overheating. I picked the car up today and after driving 15 minutes the EXACT same problem happened with the exception of the vapors. Any ideas ? Frustrated in Nashville

While driving I hit one of the many pot holes in Chicago, and shortly noticed that the car was over heating. I pulled over and when the car had cooled down, I tried to make it home. Enroute I discovered that turning on the heater fan, the temp remained in the normal range. Any suggestions?

The problem is your water pump some have a plastic impeller that brakes up which stop the water serculating around the engine thats what causes the engine to overheat. when you replace it make suer the impeller is alloy and change the thermastat has well just to be on the safe side. if its blowing out gray smoke the head gasket needs replacing as well

First of all did you hear your coolant fans come on at all ? If not Look into that first I believe that you have two fans on that Car so make sure both are not working to confirm that its a problem, Now if all that is ok I would look into your thermostat and make sure its ok and working, Now if thats ok You will want to do a compression check to make sure you don't have a Blown head Gasket. If it is a head gasket make sure whom ever does the repair to make sure you have the Heads checked for cracks. I sure hope one of those solutions help you out. Good Luck And thanks for using Fix Ya bear001

Why won't my My 98 or 99 (sic)Ford Escort chime to indicate I left my lights on?

The warning chime sounds if the parking lamps (13200) or the headlamps (13008) are left on after the key has been removed from the ignition switch lock cylinder and either front door (20124) is opened. There is a chime module that controls this .
The safety belt warning chime (10D840) (also called the central processing unit or CPU) is an audible warning system and timing circuit. The system components include:
  • Timing circuit safety belt switch.
  • Dome lamp switches.
  • Safety belt warning indicator switch which is an integral part of the front safety belt buckle end (61203).
  • Ignition switch (11572).
  • Headlamp switch.
The warning chime sounds and the safety belt warning indicator illuminates when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position and the LH front safety belt is not buckled.
Key In Ignition Warning
The warning sounds if the key is left in the ignition switch lock cylinder when either door is opened and the ignition switch is in the LOCK or OFF position.
Don't any of chimes work ?
  • The Headlamp on Reminder Chime Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Properly
  • Circuits.
  • Fuse junction panel.
  • Warning chime module.
  • GO to Pinpoint Test D .
Let me know ,mite work this out !

350z 2004 a/t with 120k miles 3 days ago my car overheated but reached just half of the temp gauge and i stopped the car and by the time it went back to normal i turned off the engine to cool down....

I don't think overheating of the engine has much to do with the transmission, either automatic or manual. If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the fluid? Sometimes low fluid stops certain gears from changing, as the torque converter doesn't have enough fluid to pressurize the servos to engage the clutches.

Blinking redlight over temp gauge on 2006 grand caravan sxt

This light warns of an overheated engine condition. If the engine is critically hot, a continuous chime will sound for 4 minutes. After the chime turns off, the engine will still be critically hot until the light turns off. does the symbol look like a thermometer? of so, that is what is is. If it's just a dot blinking, it's the security system. Does that help?

Unknown warning chime on 2000 Expedition

This is basically the door chime that stays on. I had the same problems in a couple Ford trucks. the only easy solution it to find where the chime speaker is on your expedition and disconnect it. It should be somewhere behind where your stereo is.
