The car will start but i have to push the gas too keepit running and it sounds so bad and smokes and runs really rich its a 1997 chevy camaro z28 with the lt1 thanks any help

You need to replace the optispark. THere is only one company that makes a good one and that is Petris. You are going to have to take the water pump off so you might as well get a new one of those while you are at it- Also check the timing cover seals for the water pump drive and optispark- good time to replace those too. I call it the LT1 tune up.

Have the fault codes read. Replace faulty items. Use only genuine items as non-genuine replacement are not always compatible with the OEM fitted CPU units. replace the air intake thingy as it is critical to the performance of the engine. I suspect your original problem is an accelerator position sensor or an idle sensor.

How about water or dirt in the gas? It sounds like when the tank gets low this happens, so you need to check the tank out and make sure you are not getting watered down gas. This is very common and would cause the symptoms you are describing. I have a 98 Z28, so let me know if there is anything more I can help you with.

i had the same trouble with my 98 3.8lt 3800 series II. i changed the spark plugs still no dice i changed the cables still same problem i then changed coil packs and the control piece under the coil packs that fixed it. the misfire caused it tho run rich ,which cause black smoke you might also run some fuel cleaner through it on a tank of primium gas. hope this helps

Sound like a rich by a long way; are you check if have smoke in exhaust? Black smoke is fuel, blue smoke is oil.

Also, your injectors are to big and is running rich.

sounds like spark plug coil is bad. had the same problem on my truck also. check wich cylinder is misfiring and replace the coil and maybe the plug also. if the plug looks good leave it. autozone can give you a read out. when checking the coil, if it has a rust color to it its bad and needs to be replaced. 02 z28

If you are running this car and it is not making noise chances are you have a bad oil sending unit.

Has the service engine light come on?
Does this happen when it rains or when it is damp?

any codes come up? try to take it to any auto parts store napa autozone or advance auto they will hook up a obd 2 code reader for free and that should help you narrow it down. If i had to guess it would be one of the o2 sensors?

Is it Tuned Port or Throttle Body Injected????
