My husband's 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport had the same problem and he ended up replacing a hose, the thermostat, the radiator and the water pump in that order. They were all bad and the blades had all worn off on his water pump! My brother had the same exact model/year Jeep and he had the same exact problem. That model is notorious for bad thermostat's and he had to replace the it about three times. You can also try the radiator fan relay, which is located under the front right headlamp assembly if none of those work. Hope some of this helps!

Not starting when cold

It may be that it is not getting a hot enough spark. Check the CCA (cold cranking amps) rating on your battery. If it's 650 or below, that may be your issue, a cold battery has less power. Try upgrading to a battery with more CCA like 750 CCA or above. Or if your vehicle is garage or carport kept, simply buy an extension cord and a heating blanket, really! Just open your hood and drape it over the "cold" engine at night...Worked for me with my old Datsun 280Z.

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a hard time starting after I tow my Mini Light travel trailer in hot weather. What is causing it?

Solenoid is probably overheating, or positive lead to starter is loose, if so, tighten it. You may want to replace starter.

Have a 99 jeep grand cherokee 4.7. it runs ok for 5mins when cold then once it warms up it seems like it is running out of gas, then shuts off and won't start until cool again. Also has small tap or knock...

this happened to me, it ended up being a bad coil mine had the independent coils (one for each spark plug) and it was causing a misfire which caused an audible ticking as well. i bought one and just kept moving it to the next until i found the one that needed to be changed its a electronic device and thats why it fails when it gets hot.

your clutch on cooling fan could be faulty or your radiators cores is blocked and restricted.also grilled could be blocked restricting air flow.
