I had a problem something like that and the transmission had went out and also I need a new head gasket i guess because it over heated for some period of time. Be sure he check the thermometer as well before you do some expensive repairs. All of that could contribute to your car overheating

I have a 99 mazda truck with the 2.3 change timing belt and will not start. All timing marks are inline. Is it possible to be 180 degrees off on the cam?? please help

I am showing a 2.5 engine in a Mazda truck, but its generally the same as a 2.3.
Its not supposed to be an interference engine, so no damage should have occured when the belt broke. Its possible the cam gear is 180 degrees off, but if the marks are lined up by the book it should be correct. Its very possible the marks are a few teeth off since the cam gear can move when the tensioner is released.
Checking compression on all 4 cylinders will tell you if the valves are in the right place.

2002 Mazda Protege timing belt replaced and

Scan PCM for codes. Check that timing is correct again. These DOHC engines are easy to install a tooth out. Start from the top of engine when installing timing belt on this type of engine it's the easiest way to do it. If you took CRANKSHAFT pulley apart make sure the pick up ring behind isn't placed in backwards.

I have a 2002 MAZDA Protege 5 with a 2.0L Engine (Twin Cam) took to the mechanic to replace the timing belt, after the replacent the engine performace went down and i can hear the engine got a little bit...

probbaly the timing belt is misaligned by a tooth or so. The mechanic who did it should be resonsable for fixing it. you can't reallly see it's misaligned until you take it apart. there are marks in the cams that should line up with eachother at the same time a notch on the crank gear is facing up. take it back before engine damage occurs due to the incorrect cam timing.
