Question about 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier

2004 Cavalier kills when at 1/2 tank of gas

About a month ago my 2004 cavalier just killed on me.  It took a few tries but it finally started up again.  On my way to the gas station, it did the same thing a few more times, and stopped once i filled the car with gas.  This same problem has repeated about 3 times.  Does anyone have an idea on what could be causing this?

Does my 2004 cavalier have a fuel kill switch

This may be related to the antitheft system. The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Normally when the injectors are turned off, the car will run for a second or two, and then stall. When it's the security locked out starter, you won't even hear a click when you turn the key. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. Do It Yourself GM Security bypass

Kill switch

No such thing as a kill switch.
Ford products have an inertia switch to cut off power to the fuel pump.

i bought my 97 cavalier a few months ago, had the same problem. Mine had a push start, i had to turn it over and then hit the push start. I took it in to the dealership to have the push start removed, and they told me there is a recall on that year for the ignition. They took the push start out and fixed the ignition for free. Hope this helps

It sounds like it's gonna die when i start it, like it don't want to stay running, but it don't die. could it be bad Gas? i just changed the fuel pump 3 months ago. any help would be nice

Hello and yes this can be bad gas. This also can be something that can be fixed with a simple fuel or air filter change as well. I would do a basic tune up of spark plugs and wires which may fouled out it sounds like, oil and filter, air filter, and fuel filter. I would also change the distributor cap and rotary button. These few tune up items may help your rough running automobile. If you have any other questions email me and I hope you resolve this issue.

No Start

Hi m30sec

There is a "Kill switch" on the shifter mechanism that prevents starting the engine unless the car is in PARK. This is a safety feature sp the car won't start and suddenly take off if it were in gear. This is usually a mechanical switch. I can'r say for sure where it is on a Cavalier. What I suggest you do is call a Cavalier dealer, ask for the Service Dwpt and ask one of the men where the gear shifter kill switch is located. I have found that most dealers are real good about helping in a situation like your. You are a potential future customer.

Hope this helps Good luck Liringh Ps Please leave a rating if appropriate. Thks
