Rear brake line/ rubber bushing leaking

My 2005 yukon xl is leaking grease from the back of the rotor onto the rim and wheel. Is this a major issue? How do you fix it?

New brakes and rotors in rear 6 months ago. now losing fluid and brake light on


could be leak from master cylinder this should be evident by fluid running down between master and booster or leaking from piston seal on caliper, caliper will dip fluid onto wheel rim or road leaving a visual mess easy to see

Hi i have a 1998 gmc yukon it has disk brakes in the front and drume in the back. it has a 350 motor the problem is when your doing 5miles an houre or so when you step on the brake it like stops real short...


Is it all 4 wheels or just the rear wheels that lock up? If it's just the rear wheels it could be grease from leaking axle seals getting on the lining or brake fluid from leaking wheel cylinders.

They are fitted very securely into the axle. It will come out as it is just splined onto the output shaft. The secret is equal pressure to the rear of the hub. Because of the close tolerances, it cant just be pulled from one spot on the hub as that jams the opposite side. Tap around the rear of the hub with a hammer in a circular pattern or use a 3 jaw puller to exert equal pressure.

I just had my 2002 Yukon XL rear barkes replaced. New calipers and pads,the parking brake doesn't work. Shouldn't they have found that when they were doing this work?


Of course they should have checked the parking brakes too. On the Yukon XL, the parking brakes are brake shoes that operate inside of a drum that is molded to the interior side of the rear disc brake rotors. I would take it back to the shop and voice my frustration if I were you and tell them that you feel they should do the parking brakes at no charge for your time and aggravation. They were right there to replace them if they re-surfaced your rotors anyway!

several things to check that can cause this,first check under the vehicle look at that wheel that is locking up see if its wet from a leaking wheel seal or a leaking wheel brake cylinder.if this is ok then find and pull on the emergency brake cable as it might be stuck on.and last thing is remove the wheel and pull off the drum if it has a drum and remove the brake dust this also causes your problem. in the case of a rotor and caliper it could be the caliper itself or the flex rubber hose to test you open the bleeder screw and push back the caliper if it goes back with little resistance it will be the rubber flex line that is causing the problem.

Grease leaking from the front passenger


Inner, (Large), wheel bearing has failed. This has caused the grease seal to fail.
Solution is to replace the bearing, and seal.

1.Check the bearing race in the brake rotor. If any pits, scoring, or other evidence of break down is present, the bearing race must be replaced also.

2.Check the outer wheel bearing and bearing race also. The inner bearing receives the most wear, but cleaning, and inspection of both bearings, and races is a standard procedure.

3.Observe the area on the spindle where the grease seal contacts. Insure that the spindle area is of good repair, and no scoring is evident.

The Black residue that you observe is grease mixed with brake dust.

The vehicle must be jacked up in the front, with safety stands placed in the proper area on both sides. Wheel chocks should be used behind the rear tires. The vehicle should be on a flat hard surface.

The wheel/tire is removed, then the brake caliper. The caliper is not removed from the brake hose, but hung from a hanger device, from the frame of the vehicle. (Small rubber tie down strap? Wire clothes hanger?)

Then the dust cap is removed, cotter pin, and spindle nut. Ease the brake rotor out, be ready to catch the outer bearing. Remove the brake rotor.

Rotor laying on two small wood blocks, (2x4's? 4x4?), blocks under rotor face. (Where the brake pads rub against)
Blocks placed so area of grease seal is not resting on them. Rotor is laying on blocks with outside of rotor facing up. (Outside of rotor faces outside of Tahoe)

Take a long punch, and tap out the grease seal from the inside of the rotor. Through the hole where the spindle goes through. Be careful that the punch is resting on the metal ring of the seal, and not the bearing race edge.

Loose rear wheel, believe it is the bearing. How do I repair it?


drum brakes you remove rear wheel- speed sensor-grease cap-flange nut-outer bearing-brake drum-inner grease seal-inner bearing-drive the bearing races out of the drum hub.to install -install the inner and outer bearing races.apply grease to the bearings and hub cavity.then you install the inner bearing -inner grease seal-brake drum-outer bearing-flange nut torque it to 159 to 192 ft lbs. THE REAR DISC BRAKE WHEEL BEARINGS-you have to remove rear wheel -wheel speed sensor-brake caliper and rotor-rear axle hub bolts-tone the wheel with tool 09445-21000-carrier assembly-nut after unstaking it-press out the rear axle hub-remove the bearing inner race with tool 09445-21000-remove the bushings from the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100.to install -press in the bushings to the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100- press in the bearings to the hub with tool 09221-21000.tighten the flange nut to meet the concave portion of the spindle-press in the tone wheel with tool 09221-21000-torque the nut to 191 ft lbs -install the hub and bearing assembly to the backing plate and torque the bolts to 88 ft lbs-install the brake caliper and rotor.install the wheel speed sensor if equipped.install the rear wheel.TO BUY THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB.LOOK UP KENT MOORE TOOLS ON INTERNET.
