How much of a job is replacing control arm/ball joints on my 98 Windstar?


YOU HAVE TO REPLACE WHOLE LOWER CONTROL ARM IF LOWER BALL JOINTS IS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE LOWER BALL JOINT IS SEALED AND IS A INTEGRAL PART OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BOTH IS COMBINED A ONE UNIT.

Replace lower ball joint


pull lowerball joint pin. seperate with pickle fork. remove the 2 lower control arm bolts. remove lower control arm.

reverse to install. yes the entire lower control arm must be replaced

How do you change out 1998 ford expedition 4wd lower ball joints


pull the wheel remove the half shaft nut,take off tie rod end ,take out strut bolts, remove brake caliper,and housing,remove ball joint nuts,seperate control arms from hub bearing housing ,remove hub bearing housing ,then rmove ball joints using a ball joint press(you can rent one at auto zone) ues the press too put the new ones in and put it all back together !!!

Can you replace the lower ball joints in the control arms


You can replace them seperately,but they need pressed out and in. Other methods of removing and installing likely will damage control arm.

Replacing lower ball joints


Yes...parts should run between $30-$60 each...Complete arm is about 3X that much. You can find install instructions in just about any repair manual, sometimes even with parts. (depending on mfg) Any problems installing someone here will surely help!

Ball joint keeps going


This is a tough problem to answer. There are a lot of variables that can cause premature ball joint wear. The most common concern is the road you drive on, the tires and rims you are using and the mileage you have gone.The part that you installed,did it have a grease-able zerk fitting to add to the joint? Is the alignment correct, are there any other parts failing? (like the boot that covers the joint?)
