I have a 2001 ZX2; we just did a tune up over the weekend and today the service engine light came on. It just hit 100,000 miles. Is there a reset button of some sort that possibly needs to be done or should we have it diagnosed?

Re: service engine soon
No when the light comes on means need service and the machanic will do that then reset the light if u did the service your self you will still have to take it to a machanic to clear the light its simple but each car is diffrent has to clear it by a number of turns from the key while holding down trip meter or so

what engine? The fuel filter is in the fuel tank, Spark plugs should be replaced, throttle body cleaned, and the truck generally checked over, battery , belts, brakes, tires ect. Spark plugs, trans fluid, filter, transfer case fluid change, are all due at 100k. You should have the 100K service done. Of course they base that on if you have been following the service schedule. Your owners manual will list all things that are due.
A lot depends on your vehicle history, what kind of vehicle you have and what engine and transmission your vehicle is equipped with. If this information is not provided, it is hard to say what your vehicle needs at 100,000 miles.
Your engine computer has turned the Service Engine Soon light on because there is a malfunction in one of the many systems that are monitored by the computer. The only way to find out which one, or WHY the light is on, is to scan your engine computer to find out why it has turned the light on. There will be a fault code stored in your computer. This light coming on has very little to do with maintenance schedules. It has more to do with SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. (Although many system malfunctions CAN be prevented by performing the scheduled maintenance.)
The computer is programed to have a general check up for every 100,000 miles.
Thats why it shows that message.
You have to go to your dealer to reset the computer and have your car get a general maintenance check up.
Hpe that solve the problem!

The best thing to do is to take it to a shop with a diagnostic machine and have the run it on it. That way you will find out exactly what is wrong. And its time for a major tune up at 100,000 miles any way.
If it's the indicator that literally says "service engine soon", and not the check-engine light, then you have no worries. That's programmed to come on at set intervals to remind you that routine service may be due soon (oil change, inspection, tire rotation, etc). It's not an indication of failure. Failures will be shown by the check-engine light. That one is nothing to worry about. Your owner's manual should have a procedure to turn it off.
