Hi and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action I strongly suggest that you take it in to any reputable mechanic and have an engine scan. During the scan it will list trouble codes and by then you'll know what part to be replaced.

Although in my own opinion, you may have a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) or a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. If one of these sensors are faulty you may experience an erratic idle, may have engine stall or have a fuel cut off during take off.

This is located in the throttle body where the air filter is inserted.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya. Have a good one!

2000 hyundai elantra car cranks but wont turn over just started fine 3 days ago

Did you scan for any trouble codes? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on. You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps fix the problem.

2000 hyundai elantra starts when it wants to

The problem you describe has many possible causes. Any number of engine management sensors (which are starting to go bad) can cause this problem, the fuel pump is starting to go bad, the engine computer, wiring, connectors, etc.. the list goes on and on. My experience tells me to tell you to take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center and try to get it diagnosed. If successful, they'll give you an estimate of repairs (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.). This way you'll know exactly what's wrong and what's required to fix it. Now, since the problem is 'INTERMITTENT', that makes it tough for the technician unless he/she can discover any DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) stored in the computer (ECM - Engine Control Module) - Did the 'Check Engine" light ever come ON? If so, this will help narrow the search and diagnosis.

I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra Wagon GLS, just had alternator replaced and check engine light came on on way home. Any suggestions?

The check engine light comes on because of an error detected by the car's computer. You need to have the specific error code read with a code reader/computer.

Engine riding rough

if it has a check engine light the simplest thing to do would probably go to auto zone or advance and ask them to do a code check, its free and will probably tell you the problem and take allot of the guess work out of it.
