    hey,

did you say you knew a place to get the dim for a good price ?

  • tim keeler May 21, 2009

It was suggested to me that I need to replace this direct ignition module on my 95 Saab 900 SE, 6 cylinder as it has been running rough and gas mileage has decreased.  I've been studying it and have a couple questions. 1. Is there just one module or 2 on the 6 cylinder engine? and 2. Do you need to take the valve covers off to get at the 4 bolts to remove it.  Anything else I need to know for doing it myself?

You can try qualityimportparts.com or europartsdirect.com. 4-cyl DIM's between $205 & $225, 6-cyl from similar price for each bank (3-cylinders each side.)

With either the 2.3 4-cyl turbo or the V-6, it's actually rather simple. The unit has 4 bolts on top (usually a torx star-shape) and an electrical connector at one end. U need to disconnect the battery since the unit is rather high-voltage, disconnect it from the connector, remove the bolts & it lifts out. When installing, try to make sure the new unit remains upright as there is oil inside and may leak. Installation is the reverse. Best to replace the plugs at the same time; NGK resistor-types are recommended for this type of ignition system & are most likely specified in the owner's manual. You can try "europartsdirect.com" for a new one for a decent price, around $206 each for the V6, $250 for the 4-cylinder. A search on Ebay can also return sellers with new & used parts; used are generally cheaper and many have descriptions of the donor car and a moderate warranty. A Saab dealer will run you close to $500 not including labor for the installation. Hope this helps & good luck!

Yes, it should start. What I would suggest first, is to get a $10 volt meter from Wal-Mart; with it, you can check the charging system, alternator. Select the DC-volt section (lower-left quadrant on the dial) set to 50. With the engine off, touch the probes to each battery terminal (neg-neg, pos-pos) & the black scale should indicate between 12-13 volts. Then start the car, turn on the headlights, A/C, electric defog & do the same; if it holds a similar ballpark reading with everything on, alternator is OK. If it begins to steadily drop to the point the engine falters or dies, alternator is bad; $100 new reman'd from dealers on Ebay, $205 europartsdirect.com - $500 from a dealer. NOT fun to replace; under the engine behind the right front wheel. Checking the alternator 1st answers if the vehicle has a problem other than the DIM to avoid replacing the module & have the car continue to die anyway. I feel ur pain, as I am going thru it right now. Plan to replace the alternator & sell a '99 9-5 B4 the DIM goes bad - I can smell it burning, like I hit a racoon.

Why does 99 honda cive ex have no ignition spark?

There is no definitive test for it the ICM, or igniter. If you are positive that the coil is good and it has power at the black/yellow wire, confirm that it is hot at the igniter. Make sure all 4 connecters on the igniter are tight, they should not pull off easily. With the cap off, you should check for spark directly from the coil to ground. Rotors fail too. If everything checks out, and still no spark, the next step is replacing the igniter. Check prices at Honda, sometimes they are the same or cheaper than aftermarket.

I have had trouble starting my Chevy blazer 2001, before it would feel like the ignition would get stuck, now the key won't turn either way and the steering wheel is locked and I can't turn it on

Try turning the steering wheel hard in each direction while trying to turn key. Wheel lock may be holding key. If not, sounds like you need to replace ignition lock cylinder or the ignition switch. Good luck, DW

Car died while driving will start if pumping gas while turning ignition then dies

Hey Gary,Buicks have many sensors and are very known to have problems with them, the problem is which one is bad.The best and cheapest way to fix is to have the Buick dealer repair, doing it yourself can be costly cause you will replace good sensors trying to figure out what is wrong, these vehicles are hard to trouble shoot.I called once for a friend,Buick quoted a price of 75.00 to trouble shoot,he didn't do it,evenaully he paid someone over 600.00 and it never got fixed, sold it to a junk yard.

Were is the ignition switch on a 2003 saturn ion

The Ignition starter switch is located directly to the rear of the ignition lock cylinder and it is directly actuated by the lock cylinder. You must remove the outer covers of the column to replace it. Below is a picture of the switch. Use the OEM part as it is far better than aftermarket parts and about the same price.

Hey. Your problem look to be a battery concert.
if you are sure of the battery is Ok.
Remove the Battery terminal inspect and clean.
And put back the teminals. Tight a little hard.
because one of the problems on this kind if vehicles are the battery conncetions. That came in misscontact.
After all of this . Check all the fuses Include the MEGA FUSES.
Replace as need. with the same rating.

Check the Red wire going to the fuse block. If is nessesary
Go to the autopart and buy a test light.

OK.... I hope this can be a start prosses to fix your car.
