Fault codes come from the fuel injection system diagnostic circuitry, which can store up to three faults. They can be read through the check engine light in the dash. You'll need to make a switched test lead with a spade connector on one end for connecting to the test connector. The other end is connected to ground. In 1992 the test connector is located beneath rear seat in sedan, or under the bellows ahead of shifter in convertible. With ignition off and test lead off, connect test lead to ground and test connector pin 2. turn ignition key to ON When Check Engine light comes on, turn test lead switch ON; Check Engine light should immediately go out When Check Engine light flashes ONCE, IMMEDIATELY turn test lead switch OFF Any fault codes will flash through the Check Engine light, with a long flash at beginning and end of each code; code flashes are short flashes, each block of flashes is separated by a longer space. With the engne OFF, the first fault code is that for "No RPM" 1 2 2 3 1, it will look like oooo x xx xx xxx x oooo where o = steady on, x = single flash There are over 20 fault codes, so get yourself a copy of the best source of info on this car: the "Bentley Bible" aka the Saab 900 Official Service Manual, costs about $40 from Amazon 16 valve manual: http://www.amazon.com/Saab-900-Valve-Service-Manual/dp/0837603137 8 valve manual :http://www.amazon.com/Eight-Official-Service-Manual-1981-1988/dp/0837603102 Hope this helps, if it does please give a "thumbs up", thanks Saabreur

To cycle to teh next simply turn the test switch lead ON, wait till the Check Engine light flashes ONCE, then turn the test lead switch OFF, when new codes if any start to flash.

Letting the Check Engine light flash TWICE restarts the test sequence. Letting it flash THREE times can reset (wipes out) all the stored codes. The code 00000 indicates no more faults, and should be seen to be able to reset code memory.

There are many reasons of this to happen and most of them will set a fault code in the memory of the powertrain control module, so you must have the system scanned and retrieve those fault codes to begin to diagnose this problem.

Dome lights stay on all the time

Hey Rich how's it going ? What make , model an year vehicle do you have ? On vehicles after 1996 light functions are control by a control module , Body control module for GM vehicles , GEM - generic electronic module an smart junction box for Ford vehicles an Chryslers have central timer modules or upfront modules or now they have totally intergraded power module . These modules receive an input from a door switch or the switch on the dash ! anything is possible with these systems ! Do you have a symbol of a car on the dash showing a door open when it's not ? A door ajar message ? I have my Ford service info open on my lap top , was check out a problem on ford explorer , have a description on GEM .
Detecting Faults in the GEM Output Circuits
Battery shorts can only be detected when the device being controlled is actuated (e.g., relays, lamps or solenoids). All faults are monitored continuously during the vehicle operation. Reporting Trouble Codes
Faults are displayed after the continuous DTCs and the On-Demand DTCs are retrieved. Continuous DTCs should be retrieved from the GEM before an On-Demand Self Test is run. These DTCs are then compared against the diagnostic trouble codes retrieved after running an On-Demand Self Test. .
An a code reader for check engine lights won't work for these systems !
A code

D4 light on no matter what gear i'm in. 95 Honda Accord LX 4-cylinder. Already replaced solinoid, speedometer, fan,

The D4 light is coming on to tell you that there is one or more fault codes set in your transmission control module. The only way to retrieve codes on the 1995 models is to read "Flash Codes" output by the D4 light. (See instructions below)

RETRIEVING FLASH CODES USING THE D4 LIGHT
If fault codes are present, the D4 light will "blink" when the ignition is turned to the RUN position and will remain on at all times when the engine is running.
To retrieve the flash codes, turn the ignition switch off.
Install a jumper wire between the service check connector terminals.
The service check connector is a gray, 2-pin connector located on the PCM/TCM cover under the passenger side of the instrument panel. (See picture below)

CAUTION: DO NOT use the 3-pin located next to the service check connector.

Installing the jumper will place the PCM/TCM in diagnostic test mode.
Turn the ignition to the RUN position. Codes will be output by blinking the D4 light.
Note the number of blinks from the D4 light. A short blink indicates a single digit flash code. A long blink equals 10 short blinks. For instance one short blink indicates code 1. One long blink and four short blinks indicates code 14. If there is more than one fault code, they will be output one at a time from the lowest numbered code to the highest numbered code. It is recommended that you read the code or codes several times to make sure that you are reading it correctly.

Once you have retrieved the fault code(s) re-post your question and include the information for what codes you have and someone can then help you locate the cause of the problem.

Is there an ALDL port on a legend ...to plug in a scan tool

There is a connector but it is not like the connector used in the newer 1996 OBD2 cars, your year uses OBD1, here is how you check for codes in this car.

Acura OBD1 Codes Retrieval
Acura vehicles 1986-95 obd1 code retrieval
There are a few different ways to retrieve the codes for "check engine light" for Acura vehicles. One method is to use a led light (sometimes 2 led lights) on the computer or controller box itself. If it has 2 led lights, the color is red and amber. The red is used for flashing the codes whereas the amber is used for adjustment. If you have only a single led light indicator, then that is used for flashing the code.
The controller box can be found by lifting the carpet of the passenger side front foot well or floorboard. You can see the led lights without removing the controller. On other models, you can find the controller under the driver or passenger front seat.
The second way to get the code is using a jumper wire on the diagnostic connector located on the kick panel at the front passenger side. You then watch the codes being flashed at the dash panel after you turn the key on. To read the code being flashed is easy. Example: Code 23 is 2 long flashes followed by 3 short flashes. A longer pause separates the next code that follows.
Here are Acura vehicles 1986-95 general codes:
Code 0 Electronic control unit (ecu)
Code 1 02 (oxygen) sensor
Code 3 and 5 map sensor
Code 4 Crank angle sensor
Code 6 Coolant temperature sensor
Code 7 Throttle angle sensor
Code 8 Crank angle sensor (TDC)
Code 9 Crank angle sensor (CLY)
Code 10 Intake air temperature sensor
Code 12 EGR system fault
Code 13 Atmospheric pressure sensor
Code 14 Electronic air control valve
Code 15 Ignition output signal
Code 16 Fuel injector fault
Code 17 Vehicle speed sensor
Code 21 Spool solenoid valve
Code 22 Valve timing oil pressure switch fault
Code 23 Knock sensor
Code 41 Oxygen sensor heater fault
Code 43 Fuel supply system

How do I retrieve fault codes from a 1995 Geo Tracker?

On a 1995 model you should have OBD II codes. Which means you can buy a scanner that plugs in to a clip usually located under driver side dash. If you don't want to buy the scan tool Advance Auto or Auto zone can read these codes for you while you visit the store and is free.
