It is probably a faulty canister purge value, they typically run about 30 to 40 dollars...very easy to replace.. Its up by the engine on your vacuum hoses..look @ a diagram and you will see it..all you have to do is disconnect the hose replace the valve, put the clamps back on and unhook the battery cables for a few seconds to reset the check engine light...

Your going to need more than, something
about anything

You need to test the EVAP System ,down to
the failed component
A code won't exactly tell that

CHECK ENG. LIGHT IS ON, WENT TO AUTO ZONE, THEY GIVE ME A PO442, REPLACED FUEL FILLER CAP, LIGHT IS STILL ON. NEED TO KNOW LOCATION OF PURGE OR VENT SOLENOID, AND EVAP CANISTER, FOR FUEL SYSTEM

The Purge Valve is normally on the Top if the Gas Tank, The Evap Canister is forward, follow the GREEN EVAP line to the Canister. There is a chance that it could be near the fuel tank but you never gave the year/make/model for a specific vehicle but this will get you there...

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The Engine light came on. I had Auto Zone check the code for me. I don't remember the number, but they said that it was the Purge Valve. I had to buy the Purge Valve from...

Could be the P0445 - Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve uses a ON/OFF duty to control the flow rate of fuel vapor from the EVAP canister. The EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve is moved by ON/OFF pulses from the ECM. The longer the ON pulse, the greater the amount of fuel vapor that will flow through the valve.

Symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Possible causes
- Damage harness or connectors to the Purge Control Valve
- The valve circuit is open or shorted
- EVAP canister purge volume control solenoid valve may be faulty

When is the code detected?
- An excessively high voltage signal is sent to ECM through the valve

Try to remember this code number for additional details. Hope this helps, keep us updated.

Check engine light comes on and then it will go off, when on we went to auto zone, the troubleshooting code was PO445, they said it was purge or vent solenoid. what does this part do.

the purge valve canister collects fuel vapor during the time you are driving and releases them back to the intake manifold to burn with air and fuel as you are driving. during the time the car is setting still over night any fuel vapor will go back to purge canister to start again when you drive. location of canister is in front of fuel tank on driverside. hope this will help you!!!!

YEP HAVE IT SCAN AT AUTO ZONE OR ADVANCE AUTO THEY WILL DO IT FREE.SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE EVAPORATIVE EMISSION PROBLEMS DUE TO UNCONTROLLABLE GAS VAPORS BUILDING UP PRESSURE IN GAS TANK NOT ALLOWING YOU TO PUMP GAS.SOUND LIKE THE PURGE SOLENOID VENT TO CHARCOAL CANISTER NOT VENTING OR WORKING. IF YOUR CODE TURN OUT TO BE PURGE SOLENOID REPLACE IT.CHECK FUSE GOING TO SOLENOID FIRST BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER ONE.

Check Engine Light

Ok i have the same make and model car.And had same problem but i was only needing new hoses. thwe code reader will not tell you if they are bad you just have to check this. The purge valve and canister is located under hood on passenger side behind bumper. look behind the light through the openings. You have to raise car up and do the repairs from under the bottom of the bumper. On passenger side under hood above the wheel fender and between the engine you will see a emmision line about the size of a pencil leads to the purge valve. the valve cost about $18.00 and canister cost around $75.00 at auto zone. The canister is the square box and sometimes you can take apart and clean it and put back together and it should work fine.
