The accelerator pedal on my '99 silverado sticks closed. Every time I push on it, I have to break it loose, then it causes the truck to accelerate too much, so I'm always jerking forward. There's no way to start off smoothly. Is there a way to maybe lubricate something, or will I likely have to tear it down?

What you have happening is the throttle body is coked with carbon. get a can of carb cleaner and soak a rag down and open the throttle wide open and clean off all carbon from the throttle body and butterfly. this will solve this issue for you. hope this was helpful!

Circuit/System Description
The throttle actuator control (TAC) system uses two accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors to monitor the accelerator pedal position. The APP sensors 1 and 2 are located within the pedal assembly. Each sensor has a 5-volt reference circuit, a low reference circuit, and a signal circuit.
Two processors are also used to monitor the TAC system data. Both processors are located within the engine control module (ECM). Each signal circuit provides both processors with a signal voltage proportional to pedal movement. The processors share and monitor data to verify that the indicated APP calculation is correct.
DTC P0455: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System Large Leak
The control module tests the evaporative emission (EVAP) system for a large leak. The control module monitors the fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor signal to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. When the conditions for running are met, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve OPEN and the EVAP vent solenoid valve CLOSED. This allows engine vacuum to enter the EVAP system. At a calibrated time, or vacuum level, the control module commands the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve closed, sealing the system, and monitors the FTP sensor input in order to determine the EVAP system vacuum level. The following table illustrates the relationship between the ON and OFF states, and the OPEN or CLOSED states of the EVAP canister purge and vent solenoid valves.
Below the procedure to reset ECU,Throttle and to perform Accelerator Position Learning on Nissan. It works on Titan, Altima, Infinity, pathfinder and other models.
ECU Resetting
While performing the procedures below, ensue that you are respecting the times stated. If the steps are not done within the specified times, the module will not reset. You will need to use a watch or a chronograph while performing the procedures.
Procedure:
1. Ensure that the accelerator pedal is fully released, set ignition switch to the “ON” position, then wait 3 seconds. 2. Follow the steps a and b below, repeat the two steps in sequence quickly for five times within 5 seconds. a. Push hard the accelerator pedal untill fully depressed. b. Release the accelerator pedal in full. 3. Wait 7 seconds, then depress the accelerator pedal completely, and hold it for about 10 seconds until the CEL (check engine light) starts blinking. 4. Release the accelerator pedal while the CEL is still blinking. 5. Wait 10 second. 6. Depressthe accelerator pedal in full and hold it for 10 seconds or more. 7. Fully release the accelerator pedal while the CEL light keeps flashing. 8. Turn the ignition switch to “OFF” position and start the vehicle. If procedure has been done correctly, then the light light will turn off. If the light continues to stay on, repeat the procedure.
Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning
Procedure
1. Ensure that the accelerator pedal is completely released before starting the procedure. 2. Turn the ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds. 3. Turn the ignition switch “OFF”, and wait at least 10 seconds. 4. Turn the ignition switch “ON” and wait 2 seconds. 5. Turn the ignition switch “OFF” and wait 10 seconds.
Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning
Procedure
1. Ensure that accelerator pedal is completely released. 2. Turn ignition switch to the “ON” position. 3. Turn ignition switch to the “OFF” position and wait at least 10 seconds. Ensure that the throttle valve moves after turning the switch off.
Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
Procedure
1. Follow the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning described above. 2. Do the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning also described above. 3. Start the engine, and allow warming up. 4. Turn the ignition on “OFF” positionand wait 10 seconds. 5. Ensure that accelerator pedal is fully released, then turn the ignition switch to “ON” position, and wait 3 seconds. 6. Repeat the steps a and b below five times within 5 seconds in sequence. a. Push hard the accelerator pedal untill fully depressed. b. Release the accelerator pedal until reaching full extension. 8. Wait 7 seconds or more, depress the accelerator pedal completely and hold the pedal down for about 20 seconds until you see that the Check Engine Light stops blinking and starts getting steady.. 9. Rrelease completely the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the light coming ON. 10. Start engine and let it run at idle for about 20 seconds. 12. Test the engine to ensure the idle speed and ignition timing are set correctly.
Worn clutch: If the clutch is worn, it may not be disengaging properly when you change gears, causing the engine to continue to rev as if you were still accelerating. This can also cause difficulty shifting gears or a slipping feeling when accelerating.
Dirty or faulty throttle body: The throttle body controls the amount of air entering the engine and adjusts the idle speed. If it's dirty or faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.
Vacuum leak: A vacuum leak can cause the engine to rev excessively or idle roughly. The leak can be caused by a cracked or disconnected vacuum hose, or a malfunctioning intake manifold gasket.
Faulty idle air control valve: The idle air control valve regulates the engine's idle speed. If it's faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.
WD 40 all over what you can see inside then from the under side as well. probably has build up on it ,just needs cleaned and loosend up.i had one stick on me one time because of it .
The throttle body needs cleaned its gumed up.Take throttle body off and spray and wipe the inside of the throttle body with a can of throttle body cleaner this should free it up.If that didn't help then you need a throttle position sensor.Reset the computer after any sensor is changed.
WELL I WOULD SAY FUEL FILTER BUT IT IS IN FUEL TANK IT IS PART OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY.CHECK THE APP SENSOR LOCATED ON TOP OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL.MAKE SURE PEDAL IS TIGHT AND MAKE SURE THE WIRE GOING TO APP SENSOR INTACT NOT LOOSE OR DAMAGED.IF ALL IS GOOD HAVE TRUCK SCANNED FOR ANY APP SENSOR CODES.CHECK TRANSMISSION FUSE ALSO.
'As in neutral' ? so the eingine accelerates but the car does not move? Or do you mean nothing happens? I had a problem where pushing on the accelerator and the car did not move and the engine stayed in idle. At first I thought it was the throttle cabel but the dealer could not find the problem, and of course, when I took it to the dealer the problem would not occur but as soon as I drove it off the lot it refused to accelerate across an intersection, no matter how hard I pushed on the accelerator. I solved the problem by pulling the air horn from the carb intake (fuel injection, this would be the air horn covering the throttle butterfly) with the rubber pulled from the air horn I saw a small blue screw with a sticker waring not to turn more than a quater turn at t time. I turned it one quarter turn (guessing, left or right, 50/50 chance) and the problem was solved. Apparently this is an adjustment that touches the leading edge of the butterfly keeping it from closing completely against the air intake horn and STICKING. Carbon build up will cause the buterfly flapper to stick tight and the electronic controled throttle will not break it loose no matter how hard you stomp on the accelerator. This car was not a SantaFe but you problem sounds similar. Hope this helps someone.
Doesn't sound serious just need to WD40 and grease the throttle cable and mechanism. It'll also be good if you do the same at the pedal end, this will solve your proble.
