Question about 1995 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

Oil light The oil light always starts sounding (the red one that indicates it exists a problem). So, first I bought a oil sender unit and have installed it by a guy who knows about cars...it remained the same... then my mechanical told me to buy a more viscous oil...I did it and put into my car...I measured the oil level...and it remains the red light of the oil sounding... I don't know if you could have in mind maybe what it could be the problem ? Thank you.

You have low oil pressure, either due to a bad oil pump or worn engine bearings such as rods, crank. do you have any engine noise yet?
Buy a mechanical tester oil guage and test the pressure, it should be over 20 PSI at idle, the light is triggered at or below 10 PSI I believe.

Where "exactly" is the oil sending unit?

the oil sender unit is screwed into the main oil galley of the engine block ans is in fact either a variable resistor for oil gauges or a pressure switch for oil lights
It normally has one wire from the gauge or light and is grounded out through the body of the unit
if the oil light stays on it indicates either a faulty sender unit or the wire is grounding out before the sender unit
do not confuse this unit with an oil sensor unit which has more wires and communicates with the ECM to report temperature and oil levels and pressures ( depending on the make of vehicle ) that will put on the MIL light or place the engine into limp mode

Oil red light showing on dashboard with beeping sound..what does that mean

It is a warning for oil pressure. Stop, don't drive, check oil level on the dipstick, if it's ok, check to see if the connector on the oil sender unit has not come loose and is touching somewhere in the engine. It could also be a faulty oil sender. If all this is "Greek" to you, get a mechanic to check it out

If oil pressure sensor is bad could it damage my vehicle further

It's a warning light system that no oil pressure exists. If it doesn't work, it won't cause damage, you just won't know if and when your oil pressure is lost. The sensor or sender unit is very inexpensive on most vehicles, like under $10.
All the sender does is cause the oil light to go off when it detects minimal pressure. A valve inside the sender moves and causes the sender to stop grounding the warning light, and so the light goes off.

Engines oil light indicate

If it's an idiot light, you must not run the car without checking the oil pressure or oil level.Engine damage occurs almost immediately if no oil pressure is present.
You can remove the oil sender unit and install a gauge to read oil pressure while cranking or starting for less than five seconds. don-ohio

Oil gauge is stuck all the on high, after starting the engine

Sound like a posible bad oil pressure sending unit . It is normal for pressure to be above normal just after starting . At a cold idle , the oil viscosity is higher than it would be if it were warm . If the guage is reading really high for longer than normal ( after 1 minute of cold idle ) then I suggest having the sending unit checked .A sevice center can check the sending unit on or off the vehicle as well as checking pressure with an actual guage for more accurate readings .

My son just bought a 1986 cadillac deville and the "stop engine oil" light comes on whenever he stops the car. Any ideas, a bad sensor, I hopr?

Well, if you say that when he stops the car, but the engine still running (idling) - that "stop engine oil" light comes on, it could mean that the oil pump can no longer maintain the minimum oil pressure to the critical areas of the motor at an idle.
If the light goes out with a higher idle (driving the car) that is a good indication of a worn out motor.
be sure the oil is at the full mark, not below or above the full mark. Make sure the oil and filter are new. The sender units for the oil lights rarely go out - but it is possible.

My 1996 audi A6 has an oil sending unit problem...can you tell me what that might take to fix and why would this show leaking oil? I thought this part was inside the oil pan?

The oil pressure sender unit is located on the oil filter housing. These do tend to leak at times. The warning light for this switch is a red oil can and a buzzer. Replace the switch. If warning light still comes on, have the oil pressure checked. The oil level sender warning light is an orange oil can with oil level under it. This sender is fitted on the bottom of the oil sump and can leak past the seal. If warning light comes on, check oil level. If ok, check for damage to wiring under vehicle. Senders do some times become faulty.

Where is the oil pressure sending unit on a 1999 Isuzu Rodeo 4 cylinder engine ? On Occassion, after driving for a few minutes, the oil pressure indicator light will flash and sometimes stay on. Usually,...

Sender unit is situated on the LH side(if you're sitting in the vehicle) of the cylinder block ahead of the starter motor. Problems with oil pressure are rarely because of a faulty sender. Your problem starts once the oil has heated up which would indicate worn internals. Start by replacing the oil and oil filter. If this does not solve the problem other possible solutions are worn Main and big-end bearings, worn camshaft bearings, or worn crankshaft and/or camshaft. All of the above require engine removal.
A problem I have had with my diesel is a failed O-ring on the oil pump. This repair also requires engine removal.

Oil indicator light comes on and beeps on and off is there a reset for this

This could be warning you of dangerously low oil pressure , which could damage your engine , or perhaps the oil pressure sender unit is not working. It is an inexpensive part , and easy to install.
Do you have any other issues ( warning lights etc. ) or gauges that aren't working.? Together they could indicate an entirely different problem.

1984 New Yorker 2.2 Turbo oil pressure low on ilde

I think you have a suspect oil pressure sender unit. Replace it as they are cheap and need to be reliable and it will be cheaper than getting the oil pressure tested. If the light still stays on with the new sender you may have internal wear or a partial blockage. If the light stays on you need to have it urgently checked by a mechanic or you could risk serious engine damage.
