Hi I am having trouble finding the fuel pressure regulator on my 1988 mercury cougar. Chiltons says it is attatched to the fuel supply manifold assembly downstream but I am still having trouble looking for it. Is it pretty hard to get too?
Thanks for your help

It sounds like it is the fuel pressure regulator. It is a round disc looking object that screws into the fuel rail. The fuel intake line runs to it supplying the fuel and there is a vacuum line going to it also.It controls the fuel pressure by means of the vacuum line.it should look like the attatched pic. try replacing this im pretty sure this will fix your problem.
fuel pumps will run constantly when the ignition is on as the pressure regulator is allowing the excess fuel to return to the tank. IF ether fires then you have spark but what you do not have is injector operation. Check for pulse at the injectors and that they are clean and not blocked up
sounds like the injectors are not getting a signal to squirt or no fuel . Have a pressure test done on the fuel manifold to check pump, pressure regulator pressure and filters.. check injector connection to ECM
Hi, if you have the V-6 engine, the regulator is under the upper intake manifold. If you have the 4 cylinder, it's at the end of the rail as shown below.
if you want to reset computer disconect battery for at least 5-10 minutes and recconect if problem comes back right away and engine trouble light comes on get codes read at local garage if no light get fuel presure checked
If it starts when you spray in starter fluid it would sound like a fuel supply problem. Make sure you are getting fuel and have a sufficient supply. Possibly a bad fuel pump or pressure regulator.
