On the corvette, the hood opens reverse from a standard vehicle. There are 2 latches mounted near the fire wall.

Oh yeah, my bad..Can you pull the hinge on the front of the car? Where did the cable break? If at the pull lever in the car, vise grips might work. I don't have any good answers for a break anywhere else, I'm sorry...accordianman

How do I open the hood on a 1987 corvette when the hood latch doesn't work

I think that the outer cable is loose from the clip. you will have top devise a way of coming up in front of the ac condenser to push the latch sideways as some one pushes down on the bonnet to release the latch

Latch cable for hood broke at latch on 04 tribute how do i get the hood opened?

OK, if the cable is the part that broke AND it broke at the handle, then you can use a pliers or vise grip to grab the end and pull on it to pop the hood, if it broke somewhere inside the cable, then you will need some needle nosed pliers to reach under the hood and grab it there. if it broke off at the hood latch itself, then you will need to get/ make a hook or pushing rod to engage the mechanism directly to release the latch and then replace the cable

Good Morning, The hood release broke on my 72 Corvette. How can I release the hood and replace the cable? Thanks Kent

there should be a rubber plug right under the front window on either side (the plug on the left can only be removed by removing the windshield wiper) once you have done this use a screw driver to push down on the latch under the hood

How do you open a hood on 1976 corvette when cable is broke?

If the cable broke in the cabin, pull off the side panel in the footwell and use a pair of channel locks or good pliers to pull on the cable to get the hood open.

If it broke at the hood you'll probably need to lift the car and see how to get to the release by getting between the radiator, front end and grasping the latch.

My 81 did that, cable has needs replaced under the hood. To open lift up hood on drivers side, slide hand under hood and pull cable where it hooks to latch.

The hood release handle on my 1978 Corvette broke. Is there an emergency hood release cable on the car? And if so, where is it?

I don't think there is an emergency hood release cable, However, a body shop may know a trick to getting it open for you without damaging anything.

Cant open hood cable broke ; left side not working ..need to add oil ..can I open another way

This happened to me last week. So I got a friend and together we squeezed our fingers inbetween the hood and forced it open a little bit then I located the latch and opened the hood all the way up, then generously sprayed lube on the rusted latch and coil. Once a month I will lube this area to prevent this in the future.

The cable for the hood latch in my 1972 VW Beetle seems to have snapped. How do I get the hood open to repair this?

at the handle you pull from inside the car, are you able to get to the cable that connects to the hood latch as you'll have to try to grab onto it with some pliers in order to pull on the cable. If you can't reach the cable from inside the car, you may be lucky and be able to get to it if you jack up the car as the cable should be running along the inside if your fenderwall. Hopefully you can get to the cable because of the the way your hood closes and there's no opening close enough to the latch for you to go through
