I have a 1996 Neon and the service engine light has been coming on no matter what I do. I changed the computer, spark plugs, battery wires, and coils but the light is still on. Also when I go 35 or below the car makes a whurring sound almost like a helicopter. Any idea what might be wrong?

I had the car in and it was scanned. The mechanic told me that I needed to change the coils and such. I did all of it but the light still comes on.

According to where you live! If you live in a place where there is a lot of hills or high heat, like Arizona; the fan maybe hot wired to fuse box. That will keep the engine light on at all times. That's how mine was wired because I live in the desert with 6% slopes every where. It keeps the car from overheating.

For the Engine light on your car.
I recomend get the car Scanned with a Diagnostic computer.
because is gonna be the only way to know exactly what the light come on.
Maybe the noise can be related a the same problem of the light.
Is there some Autoparts that they Scann the cars with no charge.
Autozone, Advance autoparts, Some Napa and Pepboy's.
They can do at no charge. is just a free service to the customers..
After you get the Code Number. I will able to help with the right information. and step to fix your car.

I hope this help on your problem. Thank you for use fixya.

No spark on 03 dodge neon

There is voltage on all three wires because there is no ground, check with engine cranking. The two wires that go to computer are grounds for coils. You could probably use a noid lite to check for pulse, engine cranking. That should be safe, between primary voltage and one of the grounds. There several ways to visually check for a pulse. If your digital multimeter has a min/max setting, that should work. You could use an l.e.d. but you would have to use resistor.
You changed computer, was it new?

2000 dodge neon misses all the time no power or acceleration

The spark plug wires might be bad, Are the coil packs a wires together in one? With the engine off, loosen each plug wire so as to when you start it you can not have to battle with it First do this with dry floor, rubber sole shoos and a pare of rubber or vinyl gloves. As its running pull 1 plug wire off at a time. When you get to a plug that doesn't change the sound of the motor you've found your miss. Did the CK engine light come on?

My 2000 dodge neon at red lights or stops will start to sputter or **** like its going to stop i've just about put everthing new on it new head gasket, spark plugs, plug wires, distributer, battery and it...

Scott, this might sound strange but check the wiring harness just in front of the AC compressor, sometimes, this wiring harness will come loose from it's tie down and start rubbing on the AC compressor pulley causing all kinks of electrical glitches intermittently. Remember, your Service Engine Soon light is for Emissions only, it will stay on only if your car is polluting. Good luck, Gary

Service Engine Soon light keeps coming on

When the water pump leaks, it leaks right onto the Opti-Spark distributor. It will cause the same issues you are having. Replace the Opti along with the spark plus and wires.
