Idle air control valve Check idle air control valve on throttle body. Mine had similer problems. A quick fix to get you going should be just unplug and remove spray w/ cleaner to get carbon off spring and cone shaft, reinstall. remember, this is just temporary. If cleaning has helped, buy a new one soon.

Idle's rough and retards when running at a constant speed and is thirsty.

Check air filter and then give throttle body a good clean with carb cleaner. If that fails I would give the MAF mass airflow sensor a clean with MAF cleaner.

Engine idle sensor

I would first suspect the IAC motor ( Idle air control ) . or MAF ( mass air flow) meter. The IAC will be mounted in the throttle body assembly if so equipped and the MAF will be between the engine and the air filter. Both can be cleaned using carb and choke spray first, then electrical component spray after ( to remove any residue that would prevent proper function.). If the issue was with the TPS ( throttle position sensor ) then you would have acceleration issues -if it ran at all above idle. you may have to replace one of the above sensors, and I would have a code scan performed before I started throwing money at it - that way you'll not replace a good part!!
Hope this helps!!

Why is my Grand Prix surging/stalling when ideling?

If you did not disconnect the battery and drain the voltage from the ECM, it could be using old settings when the problem existed.
When a problem occurs, the computer tries to correct it or find new settings to work around the problem. When you fix a problem you have to clear the codes and sometimes erase the memory from the computer to allow it to start back at the factory settings.
When you disconnect something and the check engine light comes on, the computer goes into limp mode and uses values for the sensors preset by the factory. The car will almost always run rich to ensure the driver can get back to a place for repairs.

1990 honda accord surges at idle, what can cause this?

It is likely a vacuum leak (from a hose or the intake manifold), or a sensor is not working properly (like the throttle position sensor, MAF sensor, idle air control ).
Spray carburetor cleaner around suspect areas to find a vacuum leak. The spray will be sucked into engine and raise idle. Spray around the intake manifold where it mates to head for leaks there.
Also check for trouble codes. Maybe a sensor threw a trouble code.
Good luck.

Jurking gas smell shifting hard little power when pulling heels

well, there are a few things you can try! a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ) transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. also be sure your fuel filter is ok! and not plugging up. a maf sensor symtom is surge, slip condition under load, the mass air flow or MAF may be degraded or contaminated. stalling, misfiring, poor acceleration. a light may not come on. you can go to any auto parts store and buy a spray can of maf sensor cleaner. follow directions on can, and this should help alot. good-day!!

Machine is throwing a MAF sensor i am told my doesnot have one, doing research on my own. the symptoms match a throttle position sensor.

the grand vitara maf sensor is usually located in the intake air duct, from air filter to throttle body. mounted on the intake manifold. some maf sensors are mounted directly to throttle body. symtoms of a bad tps are---it will cause tranny shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. have a good day !!
