You either have a bad gauge, the cable going to the gauge is stuck(rusted or freyed) or your oil pump is clogged and there really is no pressure.. take the oil pan off and get a new oil pump if things look real gunky.

Is there a oil safety switch on 2002 Chevy s10 zr2

You have a oil pressure switch which is located by the oil filter,it is screwed into block, just removed electrical connector, get wrench and remove.
  • When the oil pressure is either high or low it will either turn the oil light "on" in the dash or move the gauge to the extremes
  • Undetected high or low oil pressure can result in internal engine damage and/or gasket leakage. Here's a picture of what it look's like.

Oil pessure drops to 0 when engine warms up

it appears that the pump pressure relief valve is stuck and is not sealing off the oil system to allow pressure to build up at idle. It may be necessary to remove the oil pump and pressure relief valve for checks /repairs.

Oil pressure drops to zero at idle. Check engine light comes on. Codes are 11,12,54. Had crank and cam sensors replaced. Wants to die when problem occurs. restarts easy. Do not hear engine clatter when...

Locate the oil pressure sending unit and get a pressure test for yourself. If it is okay, replace oil pressure sending unit. If the pressure is 0. Replace the oil pump. Probably not 0 because engine would seize.

You need to have the oil pressure checked with a manual oil pressure gauge you may have a bad sending unit. If the you oil pressure is the same with the manual gauge then you have a oil pressure problem.

The oil pressure gauge keeps dropping down to 0 while i am driving

If you don't hear any ticking or knocking while the pressure gauge drops, the problem is probably a failing "oil pressure sensor". If you do hear a ticking or knocking, the problem is probably a failing "oil pump".

OIL PRESSURE LIGHT COMES ON AND PRESSURE GOES TO 0 ON GAUGE

Any time the oil pressure is 0 you take a chance of locking up the motor. The only way to know for sure is to put a pressure gauge in the oil pressure sending unit port on the engine and see what the pressure really is. At that point you will either have the peace of mind in the knowledge that the sending unit is really bad and needs replacement or you can then contact a repair shop and tell them what your testing has revealed. I wouldn't drive or run your truck while the oil pressure is at zero.

Good luck
