CHECK COOLING FAN FUSE AND RELAY.IF ALL IS GOOD.HOT WIRE COOLING FAN TO MAKE SURE COOLING FAN MOTOR IS WORKING. IF COOLING FAN RUNS WHEN YOU HOT WIRE FAN MOTOR.CODE SCAN FOR ECM FAULT CODES.REPLACE THE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR NO NEED TO BYPASS THE SENSOR.
RADIATOR COOLING FAN NOT RUNNING COULD BE BAD ENGINE.COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS FAULTY IF COOLING FAN IS NOT TURNING ON AT SET TEMPERATURE OF 196 TO 203 DEGRESS.CHECK SEE COOLING FAN RUNNING WHEN ENGINE RUNNING HOT.IF YES FLUSH RADIATOR , FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK, HEATER CORE,REPLACE RADIATOR CAP.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF LEAKING REPLACE WATER PUMP. Insufficient or weak coolant, bad thermostat (out of range), cooling fan not running or kicking into 2nd phase with A/C on, bad temperature sensor, bad temperature sending unit.(false guage reading).
Start by checking your coolant level and color (nice and green or orange? not rusty looking?) if rusty looking, flush coolant system and refill with recommended coolant type of 50/50 mixture.
Check specific gravity of coolant to see if the mixture is weak.
Verify cooling fan is kicking on after engine reaches operating temperature with engine idling.
Measure resistance of temperature sensor. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)
Measure voltage at sending unit. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)
One of those should solve it, I always lean toward weak coolant and bad thermostat. I have seen bad water pumps do that too.
Check the coolant temperature sensor, it may have dirty contacts which is an easy job to fix. Signal from the coolant sensor indicates to the ECM that the engine is at running temperature and for the ECM to reduce the amount of fuel from the injectors (always a rich mix when warming up). (A little while later the thermostat should open allowing hot coolant to flow via the top hose to the radiator) The ECM rthen triggers the (5 pin) relay and the fans then come on. Check also the coolant relay fuse.

The car has a computer that is linked to the engine. It is hard wired to it meaning the computer is always on. Upon shutting your engine off taking the keys in hand the computer is still on sensing the engines temperture. The coolant sensor will send power to the relay to keep the fans running untill cooled down enough. Then the sensor will cut off power to the relay shutting off the fans

TO MAKE SURE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR IS NOT OPEN.MAKE SURE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND COOLANT TEMPERATURE READS SAME ON SCANNER IF NOT REPLACE THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR. SEE IF COOLANT TEMPERATURE IS BAD THE COOLING FAN OR FANS WONT RUN.
