Question about 2001 Pontiac Aztek

Airconditioner not working

Service guy says that the condenser needs to be replaced (2nd time!) I have a mechanic friend who can possibly do it. Is this a major undertaking?

I've had the same problem. Now I'm deciding whether to dump this POS or replace the condenser again. Go American engineering!

Visit your closest Auto Zone if you have one. If there is a part available through their store they will also give you directions on the installation. If not then possible purchase a repair manual for up to like 24 dollars and this may have the instructions for it. Question is it ONLY your AC. Or the entire control panel related to heating and cooling?

My 1999 Silverado 5.3L automatic won't shift from 2nd to 3rd until 2500 rpm when it's cold. When warm works fine but 1st to 2nd shift won't happen until 2500 rpm, speratically. Transmissio

I had a friend that had this problem.I work at a G.M.dealership and I ask a friend that does trans work there. He said this is normal in cold weather. This is done in order for the trans to reach operating temperature sooner. This could be why you are unable to fix this problem because it is normal.I looked in service info to see if I could find a bulletin or something to back this up but I did not find anything.I know this guy very well and I know he knows his work and is good at it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

My service light is on - on my 2004 Audi A4 - It has 67000 miles on it.. What service is due and how much am I looking at?

This is the big one - roughly every 60k miles the timing system needs replacement. This is the timing belt, accessory belt, water pump, thermostat, tensioning and idler pulleys, hydraulic damper, coolant flush, and other smaller jobs (cabin and engine air filters, oil/filter change, tire rotation, and inspection of brakes and suspension). A dealer is going to kill you on this - I've had people bring me quotes of up to $1500 for replacement of the timing belt alone (none of the other components included). This is a critical service though - at this point you can expect wear on the timing tensioner components and if the belt jumps or those parts fail, you'll need a new cylinder head. Check your local craigslist automotive services section, ask friend's with German cars, etc to find an independent mechanic to perform the work - don't go to a Chevy guy for this. If you're in the northeast US, I can handle it for you. Depending on location I may be able to recommend someone nearby as well (feel free to contact me at dizellow@yahoo.com for information).

Airconditioner cooling not workign despite three

I would check the system pressure. You can buy a leak detector. I would check all the fittings on the lines, around the compressor, condenser, and evaporator.

Need to repair manual transmission gears or rear end gears? My 97 S-10 pickup broke down after a hundred mile trip. I was driving on a hill and shifted into 3rd gear but when I pressed the gas it didnt...

If the trucks moves in 1st gear it wouldn't be the rear end. In a manual transmission 2nd and 3rd are on the same shaft. If you are mechanically inclined or have a good friend that is go on-line to faxonautoliterature. Follow the instructions on the home page and for between $25 and $40 you can pick up a GM service manual for your transmission that will help you repair your transmission in stead of replace. They also list a service manual for the complete truck for $129 if you want. Hope this helps.

The condensation from the airconditioner is flooding my passenger side

an insect has most likely made a home in the drain tube, under the hood.

if your not allergic to be stings, nead the tube to see if it is clogged.

if not clogged there, you may want to take it to a mechanic

Broke timing chain in a 3.8 1995 mustang

The timing chain is not a cause for whole engine replacement. If the guy is willing to do it for 150 plus parts and guarentee's it to run right afterwards Id say go for it. 150 Plus parts is a good deal for something like this.

Sincerely,

2007 CADILLAC SRX

Recently had the same problem my friend......The O2 Sensor can simply mean that your gas cap is not on tight enough, or possibly your purge solenoid.
I am just a regular average guy, and I am retarded when it comes to cars, so I asked a mechanic on ask.com cadillac, or something like that...anyways......The purge Solenoid only costs about 35 dollars, and is super easy to replace. The hard part is getting your card started again after your battery is hooked back up because of the Cadillac theft detterant system. After you put the Purge Solenoid in, and hook up your battery make sure you do the following to bypass the security system:
1. Turn key in ignition all most all the way on, but don't turnover.
2. Leave in this position for 10 min exactly
3. Turn key back for five seconds
4. Repeat this sequence four addtional times.
5. On the fourth time the car will turnover, and you are good to go.

I hope this helps, cause cadillac almost bent me over on this one....
Dom
