Question about Daihatsu Charade

Diahatsu mira j 1993 659 cc efi

Snapped timing belt.relaced belt and damage valves. Now no spark or fuel when igition is turn on. Cant find any wiring circuits.Got power to coil.cant find fuel pump relay.all fuses okay. fusable links ok.

My Toyota duet can't start and only cranks. Spark plugs OK, coil OK, fuel pump OK. What could be the problem?


If fuel and spark are good, then check cylinder compression. As I am in the USA, I am not familiar with the Diahatsu-built Toyota Duet. I would suspect that you may have a timing belt-driven engine that may have slipped time or broken a belt.

If the belt snaps on a 2003 caddy sdi 1.9 ,.will the valves be damaged pls??


if the timing belt brakes the valves cant move so yes if a timing belt brakes it will likely damage your engine. if the serpentine belt brakes you should be alright.

Why does my 1993 geo prizm have no spark or fuel?


old cars.... (old OBD1 , i know well)

skipping the 60k mile tuneup is 99% here. nobody tunes old cars they drive them to death. (stats facts)

there can not be fuel, if no spark, the ECU does detect no spark (most times) and then cuts fuel (to you dont crash and burn as seen on TV)

that is a fact.

so its just spark. and this engine unstated Toyota engine.

has EFI

and as such, the ECU, (EFI brain) makes spark.



the ECU listens to the crank (CKP) and CAM (cmp) sensors

and then fires the IGNITIOR (coil driver)

the ECU will puke DTC errors if CMP or CMP fails.

we see that cranking with the the Diagnostic TE1 jumper in place

the ECU can report dead spark to with its own DTC error codes.



here is my list for old funky engines.

1: compressing at 150PSI + , no ? its 80 the cam belt slipped or is snapped, if snapped the distributor rotor stalls

2: spark good times 4?

4: ok compression at spec, and spark good 4by4.

5: test fuel work ? now? runs for 3sec?

yes, runs and stalls, that is called fuel loss.

no, it must be flooding did you do the spark tip checks for flooding

method of testing.

put in a 10cent jumper wire, and crank for 5 seconds , release

key, see flash codes ,bingo ? this works on all OBD1 cars made.

93 Honda Civic dx will not start. new fuel pump igniter, has spark


sorry if you guess and guess wrong. really, must be expensive.



ok got spark (and timing is good, timing light test)

if test fuel ( use instant start in a spray can) fails, with spark

then engine is bad, compression is checked, see near 80 not 150+ PSI , the timing belt has slipped. if not changed by the book

they slip and the engine grenades (or bends valves)



this is an interference engine, never ignore the belt.

there is an acid test order.

1 compression good.

2 spark good, and timed

3 fueling is last. (if spark plugs dry add fuel, by hand)



cant burn fuel with no compression and spark. well with EFI it cant run right with bent valves either.



here is Chad running an engine (any) with no gas tank

even his battery is dead. and has external battery. for 12v power.

a real trooper.

ive done this 1000s of times. in 60 years.

his engine only makes 80 psi (old) and still starts.

but EFI will never do that not that low. compression



the cam slips and goes retarded compression drops to near 1/2

and the valve timing is so bad, the exh opens late and pollutes the

next last intake charge. the card house falls and then the valve bend.



take if from me, nostarts are a blessing on any honda

maybe it saved your valves.? do the service on time./

WONT START


Remove the oil filler cap on valve cover and have someone turn over engine. If valves are moving the timing belt is OK. , if not the timing belt broke or is loose and may need replaced. Check internal timing pulleys as well for damage.
Also, check spark plug wires and replace as needed.

1991 2.5 transit snapped it timing belt, replaced belt fitted new pushrods, but when i try to manually turn engine over i cant get it to do a whole revolution, it stops with a loud hard knocking (sounds...


usually when the timing belt snaps it damages the valves also you have to get the head valves checked for damage if they are damaged its $$$ you have to replace if the head is not broken also
if so
you need to replace the valves
valve guaides
valve seals
and get it valve grinding

it has to go to a workshop dont try to crank the engine again as if something saved will be saved
but if you keep trying you can damage more parts
