Question about Chevrolet Nova

I accidently put the wrong key in the ignition of my 1988 chevy nova. I got the key out but the right key doesn't go in now. Any suggestions

It sounds like you jambed the tumblers in the ignition switch.
You might want to try calling a locksmith to discuss if this is something that they can do.
Worse case, you would have to replace the ignition switch.

How do I remove the ignition switch cylinder on a 1969 Chevrolet Nova


The ignition switch is in the column. To take it out, put your car key in the ignition and turn it. You will see a little hole where you can insert something like a jewler's pick and the ignition switch will come right out.

Hi looks like your head gasket is gone, check if oil in water or water in oil, oil will go grey in colour, and open rad, when cold, check for signs of oil. But not good symptoms, sorry!

I worked on a chevy that did this and it was the ignition switch. As soon as I let off the key it would die. I went threw the security, ecm, bcm, and most of the wiring before I realized what it was doing.

Maybe you accidently disconnected the wire to the brake switch behind the brake pedal?

What are the usual labor and part costs for a 1988 Chevy Nova lifter?


Lifters are generally under $10. each. Labor depends entirely upon what the shop normally gets per hour. Hours depend upon which engine you have. (same for gasket kit)

if u looking to replace the cyl. and key
first remove the steering wheel,that will give u access
to your cyl.
