Question about 1993 Ford Probe

2 Answers

Electrical Hi! The car has a problem starting. It behaves as if the battery is dead. Half the time, the battery appears completely dead. The other half of the time, the radio and interior light will come on but the engine won't even turn over. Sometimes, I can hear a ticking like it's trying to start and other times, there is no noise. The alternator is good, and the belts were completely replaced about 2 months ago. There was some corrosion on the terminals, which I cleaned off, but it did not solve the problem. Do I just need a jump? Thanks!

I have had a similar problem ever since I bought my 93 probe. Someone suggeted that I put the car in third gear, turn the key off, take off emergency brake and rock the car forward and back afew times. This has somehow worked every time for me and it happens alot. Sometimes it takes more than one try, but it has not failed yet. Try just rocking it by sticking your left foot out the door while sitting in drivers seat, if that doesn't work, I get out and push on back bumper a few times. kinda weird, but it does work????

Hey, My car does something similar. Sometimes it will start immediately, other times it will jus click but everything will turn on. What I have found it to be might help... Try checking the connection on the positive and negative cables ensuring they both have good connections at both ends. If thats the case the wires themselves may be corroded further down the wire. Its possible that its getting enough power to engage the starter solenoid but not fully spin the starter. Hope this helps.

Car will start but cuts out and all electric power has failed

The problem has been successfully completed.
The problem was that the battery fitted by Wal-Mart was not secured to the car, subsequently the negative terminal was touching the body of the car at times, this caused the entire electrical system to shut down and of cause when you moved the battery to fit jump leads the car was okay.
Hope this explanation makes sense.
Thank you for your help, it is nice to know someone is out there.
