You can use a water pump wrench (lg. Channel lock) or a lg crescent wrench against the belt tension OR remove the belt and use a strap wrench on the WP pulley while loosening the bolt w/ the wrench. Probably a reverse thread, righty loosey instead of lefty loosey. But don't blow a gasket, it might be regular thread too. Mine was.

A fan blade removal tool is required to loosen the big nut behind the fan blades. It screws into the water pump. Once loosened, The fan assembly can be lifted out of the car. Then you will separate the fan from the fan clutch by removing the 4 small bolts. Instalation is the opposite of removal.

ur supposed to unscrew the fan at that big nut and remave the cooling fan shroud first then youll have all kinds of room. snug the pump back to the motor and break that nut loose. i always use an air hammer and chisel in the left of the top flat on the nuts, it starts it in the right direction and then un threads easy. you have to hold the pump pulley and turn that big *** nut. you can borrow tools from parts store for it if you dont have anything

How to replace a water pump on a 1999 dodge

so i just replaced my water pump today on the same car, mine is a 5.9 magnum. I drained the whole system before i started working on it, next you have to take off the fan, if you look on the inner side of the fan there is a big nut there, in order to loosen that i put to bolts into the holes on the water pump pulley and used a thin screwdriver for leverage, while putting pressure on that, i loosened the nut, be careful not to slip cuz those fan blades are dangerous. but once you have removed that nut from the pulley take out the four bolts holding on the housing, pull the fan and the housing out at the same time. next remove the belt, after that is done, disconnect the hoses from the water pump, there are three, one on each side and one on top. there are a total of eight bolts holding the pump on, keep track of them because they are different sizes. But that is how i removed mine. It was all farely simple i am a girl and i managed to do it so i think you should be fine. Hope it works for you becuase it didnt work for me, i now think that it is my head leaking, if you know anything about that let me know.

I cant get my fan blade of to change can you tell me how?

There is only 1 great big tube nut on the inside of the fan blade assembly that needs to be loosened to remove it. U have to prevent the shaft its threaded onto from spinning though. The whole thing spins off that shaft on the water pump.

Put a prybar between 2 of the small fan bolts. Have someone hold the prybar, or rest it on the frame if it is long enough. Then turn the big nut on the fan to the left.It will be VERY tight. If that doesn't work, you can probably rent the fan removal tools from your local parts store.
