My 99 Chrysler sebring had a rough idle. I replaced the dist. cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. The problem actually seems worse now. Since the tune up the check engine light has come on. The codes it generated are for misfire cylinder 5 - 305, and system lean 171. I am totally lost, and would greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

My car won't start. Has good cranking power battery, starter, alternator good, but won't "kick over". Checked Distributor Cap, and rotor, wiring, no cracks in cap, no moisture, wires all have good spark. Don't know if it is Fuel filter, pump, or Electrical.

Make sure the gapping on the plugs are ok. its very likely you dropped som of them in plug hole and altered gap. and make sure wires are not running on top of each other directly.

Did you try a simple tune-up? Plugs, Distributor Cap, Plug Wires, Rotor Bug..?
Worse case scenario Timing Belt slipped a notch..

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.

I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

Tuned up car changed 02 sensor full tank of fuel still running rough

Oxygen sensor only report the condition of the engine the rough running condition can range from a worn sparkplug wires to worn sparkplugs to valve problems to injector problems. with the cadillac deville a tune up should be the first attempt to smooth the rough idle with the inspection of the cap and rotor cap and rotor do have a tendancy to arc internally and create misfire so does sparkplug wire that can leak spark voltage to ground and create misfire. the spark plug wire especially if they are brittle and hard can create issues

1995 toyota camry runs very well accept when at idle its rough 4 cyl.

You need to have a full tune up done on the vehicle. Plugs, wires, air filter, dist. cap, dist. rotor, and oil service. This greatly increases the operation of the motor if they are old and worn. I hope that this points you in the right direction. Please rate if i was able to help you.

Runs rough at idle when i drive it runs fine until i come to red light then it wants to stall. if it is idling it will stall to just bought it havent did any maintenance yet

Those El Caminos are nice. If you haven't done any maintenance, I would make sure that the oil is full, check and replace any bad carb. vacuum lines, check for any fuel, intake, vacuum, etc. leaks. Maybe check and replace spark plugs, wires, dist. cap + rotor, also check timing, etc. Good luck.

My car went from 30 miles a galllon to 20 miles a gallon it seems over nite

most likely suspect is the carb

However, I'd start with your basic tune-up first...
  • replace spark plugs
  • replace spark plug wires
  • replace Dist cap and rotor
  • replace fuel filter
  • replace air filter
  • change oil
  • adjust timing and base idle speed
  • adjust fuel mixture (if available)
Cheers
