How do I refill with Freon my AC? - 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada

What year of Bravada is it? I think around 1996ish there is no freon anymore. You should have R-134a. This can be purchased at just about any auto store. Hell even wal-mart sells it. You will need to purchase a refill kit first that inclues the filling hose and directions. One I prefer is the "Artic Freeze Recharge & Retrofit kit". This thing comes with everything you need to convert an old r-12 system or fill a newer r-134a system, coolant and all! You can find it at just avout any Schucks/Kragen/Checker

    Good Luck

Your suv still has freon in it, whether it be r12 or r134a , it is still freon. if you look and see the aluminum lines in the engine compartment you can follow them up to the "reciever/drier" wich looks like a 3" canister on the firewall on the passenger side. see the black cap on the 5/8" line coming from it? remove that cap and attatch the refil can to that fitting under the cap. you should buy the refill cans with the guage on them as you are looking for aproximately 30psi on that exact port while the system is running. first hook up the can and see what the compressor is doing. if it keeps going down below 30psi and the compressor keeps cycling on and off-keep filling.
For best system performance the system should be evacuated and refilled because if the system is low now , it HAS moisture in it. Good luck .......Scott

Do I have to change my compressor? This is my 3rd freon refill. A 230E '99 MB.

no you do not need a new compressor; take your car to an ac shop and, make sure they change the fill valves (they look like oversized tire valves inside the compressor where the freon lines attach (after time the o-rings fail in these and, they leak refrigerant; obviously your dealer has an incompetent ac mechanic or. these should have been inspected and, if having failed: replaced.

The ac is not cold

If you replaced a hose on the A/C, then you need to draw out the air inside the system before refilling it. You can borrow a Vacuum pump for this task from Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys. It will take a large deposit for the machine, but you get a full refund.

Remember to get an appropriate oil for the compressor and to refill the lines with the correct amount of Freon.

Were to put freon in at the fist hook up or second

Your system has R134A Freon. The good news is those two couplings are different sizes. The refill can connector will only connect to the low side which is the proper side to refill the AC System.

When I turn on the AC warm air blows through and never changes unless it's cold outside. Do I need to fiil or replace something?

Most probably just needs to have the AC serviced and refilled with coolant. Since the car is a '95. I had to bring in my to get the coolant refilled just a few weeks back and it is a 2004. We used to just call it a freon refill, but they don't use normal freon anymore, they use a coolant/refrigerant that is safer for the environment, but this doesn't matter for you. Just bring it in to your mechanic or to your dealer and have the AC serviced.

They should probably put in a dye as well to see if there is a coolant leak, If so, it is usually a very slow leak and repairing the whole AC unit wouldn't be worth it. Either way, it needs a fill.

Good luck!

The ac light starts flashing when i begin to refill the system. I replaced the compressor, dryer, evaporator, expansion valve, and pressure switch that connects to the same piping. It is my understanding...

usually you have to have these ac systems vacumed while refilling, also you could have a bad compressor, even if it is new, friend of mine has this same car, bought new comp from autozone, basically same problem you are having, check with auto parts to see exactally how much comp oil is needed and freon, you may have to much freon in it.

My ac in my 2001 civic isn't working the heater works but when I turn the ac button on it blows hot air. I have checked the fuses and attempted to use a sef freon bottle it wouldn't take the freon. Also...

You most likely out of freon. You need to purchase a single charge hose and 134a freon to charge the system. Those charge bottles are hard to get to work. When you start charging the ac system,be sure the engine is running, and the ac is on.Fan on high, and on recirculation. The ac clutch on the compressor will cycle on,and off, until enough freon is in the system.

Have a dodge truck and a jeep cherokee with the same problem, system is charged and compressor is working but only hot air??

since the AC freon is held in the system by oversized tire valves; they leak.
Please check your pressure. If you try to refill; the air in the system; caused by the leak; will prevent the freon going in (air turns to ice) unless you vacuum evacuate the system or, you could have the system checked repaired and, refilled by a certified auto AC shop.

How to refill freon

Air conditioning systems should only be serviced by trained technicians because of the pressures involved and risks of explosion or injury. If you are unsure how to recharge a/c and don't have the proper equipment you should take it to a shop.
